Der Supinatorfettkörper bei Frakturen des Ellbogengelenkes
1989
The position of the supinator fat pad is regarded as a valuable sign in fractures of the elbow. In our patients the pad was visible in 277 out of 337 cases (82%). The sign was positive in only 27 out of 55 proximal fractures of the radius (sensitivity 0.49). There was no correlation between the severity of the fracture and the sign. There was marked variation in the distance between the pad and the radius, depending on age, build and projection. Our results indicate that the sign is not suitable for the diagnosis of fracture of the elbow.
3D-CT von Frakturen: Vergleich von Volumen- und Oberflächen-Rekonstruktionen
1998
Purpose The comparison of volume rendering (VR) and surface rendering (SSD) for demonstrating fractures from spiral-CT data. Materials and methods Standardized VR and SSD projections were produced from 50 spiral CT scans of 50 consecutive patients with fractures. Appropriate multiplanar reformattings (MPR) were used as the standard. Results SSD provided sufficient information in 31/50 cases. Results of VR were not significantly different (33/50). VR was superior in demonstrating 6/7 craniofacial fractures and 3/3 calcaneal fractures. SSD was superior for visualizing 2/3 shoulder fractures and 2/2 elbow fractures. Conclusion VR is a flexible technique for the depiction of fractures and the a…
Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic Shoulder and Elbow score kyselylomakkeen adaptaatio ja validointi Suomeen
2021
Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic (KJOC) Shoulder and Elbow score -kyselylomake on Yhdysvalloissa kehitetty yli olan urheilijoiden olka- ja kyynärpään itsearvioidun toimintakyvyn työväline.
Quantifying an Upper Extremity Everyday Task With 3D Kinematic Analysis in People With Spinal Cord Injury and Non-disabled Controls
2021
Objectives: Upper extremity function after spinal cord injury (SCI) is an important factor for performance of activities of daily living. An objective assessment of upper extremity function preferably in purposeful daily tasks is essential in understanding its impact on real-life activities. This study aimed to identify which movement parameters of upper extremity, measured by kinematic analysis during a purposeful daily task, are impaired in people with cervical or thoracic SCI.Materials and Methods: The study included 29 adults (mean 59.5 years, 9 women and 20 men) with cervical (n = 19) or thoracic (n = 10) established complete (n = 15) or incomplete (n = 14) SCI, and 54 non-disabled con…
Screw fixation of radial head fractures: Compression screw versus lag screw—A biomechanical comparison
2009
Abstract Introduction Secondary loss of reduction and pseudarthrosis due to unstable fixation methods remain challenging problems of surgical stabilisation of radial head fractures. The purpose of our study was to determine whether the 3.0 mm Headless Compression Screw (HCS) provides superior stability to the standard 2.0 mm cortical screw (COS). Materials and methods Eight pairs of fresh frozen human cadaveric proximal radii were used for this paired comparison. A standardised Mason II-Fracture was created with a fragment size of 1/3 of the radial head's articular surface that was then stabilised either with two 3.0 mm HCS (Synthes) or two 2.0 mm COS (Synthes) according to a randomisation …
Changes in motor unit characteristics after eccentric elbow flexor exercise
2010
Morphological evidence suggests that fast-twitch fibers are prone to disruption of their membrane structures by eccentric exercise. However, it is unclear how this is reflected in the discharge rate and action potential propagation of individual motor units, especially at high contraction levels. High-density surface electromyograms were recorded from biceps brachii muscle and decomposed to individual motor unit action potentials at isometric contraction levels between 10% and 75% of maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) before intermittent maximal elbow flexor eccentric exercise, and two hours (2H), two days (2D) and four days (4D) post-exercise. Maximal voluntary force decreased by 21.3±5.6…
Evidenz-basierte Überprüfung der Therapieempfehlungen bei Epicondylopathia humeri lateralis (Tennisellenbogen) - eine Übersicht
2004
The guidelines of the German Orthopaedic Societies regarding the treatment of lateral elbow epicondylitis were analysed on the ground of recently published reviews or randomised placebo-controlled trials (RCT). For the acute phase, reviews or RCTs failed to show a clinical effect beyond placebo if follow-up was extended over 6 weeks. For the chronic phase a current Cochrane review failed to identify any controlled trial regarding surgical procedures during the last decades. Without an adequate control group, it is not possible to draw any meaningful conclusions about the value of this modality of treatment. Therefore surgery is not indicated before repetitive low-energy extracorporeal shock…
Comparison of elbow flexor isokinetic peak torque and fatigue index between men and women of different training level
2017
The purpose of the study was to compare elbow flexion peak torque (PT) and fatigue index (FI) during isokinetic concentric contractions in men and women with different training levels. Sixty-eight young men and women were divided into four groups: resistance trained men (RTM), non-resistance trained men (NRTM), resistance trained women (RTW) and non- resistance trained women (NRTW). Participants performed two tests on an isokinetic dynamometer, one to evaluate PT and one to evaluate FI. Significant interactions were found for sex and resistance training status with both PT and FI. In general, resistance-trained subjects had higher PT, and women showed lower PT than men. PT values were 67.12…
Weight-bearing, muscle loading and bone mineral accrual in pubertal girls--a 2-year longitudinal study.
2007
Abstract Objectives: The mechanical environment is considered to be the most important determinant of bone strength. Local muscle force, in turn, is regarded as the largest source of loading applied to bones. However, the effect of weight-bearing on bone mineral accrual is unclear. Comparing the relationship between muscle force and bone mineral content (BMC) in the upper and lower limbs provides a means of investigating this issue. Subjects and methods : The study group comprised 258 healthy girls aged 10–13 years old at baseline. BMC, lean body mass (LM) and fat body mass (FM) of total body were assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry at baseline and 2 years after. The maximal isomet…
Changes induced by eccentric training on force-velocity relationships of the elbow flexor muscles.
1995
The aim of this study was to examine the effects of a short term eccentric training period on force-velocity relationships of the elbow flexor muscles. From a muscle model, the maximal shortening velocity Vo(x) and the af parameter which varies according to the curvature of the force-velocity relationship of the muscle were determined. Sixteen volunteer subjects divided into 2 groups participated in this study (Group Eccentric GE, n = 8; Group Control GC, n = 8). The subjects performed, on an isokinetic ergometer, 2 maximal concentric elbow flexions at different angular velocities (60, 120, 180, 240, 300, 360 degrees s-1) and held maximal and submaximal isometric actions at an elbow flexion…
