Picosecond Time Resolved Analysis of the Fast and Slow Reversible Non-Photochemical Chlorophyll Fluorescence Quenching

1998

Photosystem II, which is a potential target of adverse effects of supersaturating light, is strongly dependent on a mechanism, which allows to switch over between efficient photochemical energy conversion at limiting light intensity and efficient photothermal energy conversion under strong light. The mechanisms for the thermal dissipation of light absorbed in excess are reflected by the socalled non-photochemical quenching of chlorophyll fluorescence (NPQ). Under excessive illumination two major components contribute to the overall NPQ which can be distinguished by their different kinetics of dark relaxation. The fast reversible component is supposed to be linked to the light-induced format…

Online Visualization of Corrosion Processes of Zinc and a Cu/Zn Galvanic Pair in Lithium Bromide Solutions

2003

Abstract A new method has been developed for online visualization of corrosion processes. The system allows surface images of the tested electrode to be captured simultaneously with the recorded electrochemical signal caused by corrosion processes without disturbing the electrochemical system. The experimental device consists of an electrochemical system with a horizontal electrochemical cell coupled to optical equipment. The horizontal position of the electrodes tested permitted the direct observation of surface modifications with time and of the experimental conditions by means of a triocular microscope stereoscope assembled to an image acquisition system. The new methodology was applied …

Simultaneous detection of copper and mercury in water samples using in-situ pH control with electrochemical stripping techniques

2023

The performance of electrochemical sensors using an in situ pH control technique for detection of mercury and copper in neutral solutions is described herein. Sensors are comprised of two distinct parallel gold interdigitated microband electrodes each of which may be polarised separately. Biasing one interdigitated “protonator” electrode sufficiently positive to begin water electrolysis, resulted in the production of H+ ions, which, consequently droped the interfacial pH at the other second interdigitated “sensing” electrode. This decrease in pH permitted the electrodeposition (and consequent stripping) of metals at a sensing electrode without the need to acidify the whole test solution. In…

Logic Functions with Stimuli-Responsive Single Nanopores

2014

[EN] We present the concept of logic functions based on a single stimuli-responsive nanopore and analyze its potential for electrochemical transducers and actuators. The responsive molecules at the surface of the polymeric nanopore immersed in an electrolyte solution are sensitive to thermal, chemical, electrical, and optical stimuli, which are the input signals required to externally tune the conductance of the nanopore (the logical output). A single nanostructure can be operated as a resistor or as a diode with a broad range of rectifying properties, allowing for logical information-processing schemes that are useful pH and temperature sensors, electro-optical detectors, and electrochemic…

Multipore membranes with nanofluidic diodes allowing multifunctional rectification and logical responses

2016

[EN] We have arranged two multipore membranes with conical nanopores in a three-compartment electrochemical cell. The membranes act as tunable nanofluidic diodes whose functionality is entirely based on the pH-reversed ion current rectification and does not require specific surface functionalizations. This electrochemical arrangement can display different electrical behaviors (quasi-linear ohmic response and inward/outward rectifications) as a function of the electrolyte concentration in the external solutions and the applied voltage at the pore tips. The multifunctional response permits to implement different logical responses including NOR and INHIBIT functions.

Zn(II)-coordination and fluorescence studies of a new polyazamacrocycle incorporating 1H-pyrazole and naphthalene units.

2010

The synthesis and Zn(2+) coordination properties of a new macrocycle (L1) obtained by dipodal (2 + 2) condensation of the polyamine 3-(naphthalen-2-ylmethyl)pentane-1,5-diamine with 1H-pyrazole-3,5-dicarbaldehyde are reported. pH-metric studies show that L1 bears five measurable protonation steps in the 2.0-11.0 pH range. Fluorescence emission studies indicate that the removal of the first proton from the H(5)L1(5+) species leads to a significant decrease in the emission due to a photoinduced electron transfer process. Addition of Zn(2+) promotes a boat-like conformation that approaches both fluorophores and facilitates the formation of an excimer which reaches its highest emission for a 1 …

Spectral and microscopic study of self-assembly of novel cationic spermine amides of betulinic acid

2016

Supramolecular characteristics of two spermine amides of betulinic acid (1 and 2) were studied by measuring and evaluating their UV-VIS-NIR spectra in aqueous acetonitrile and DOSY-NMR spectra in tetradeuteromethanol, accompanied by atomic force microscopy (AFM) images, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrographs, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrographs. Fibrous supramolecular self-assembly of 1 and 2 was observed by AFM images, as well as by the SEM and TEM micrographs. Bathochromic shifts of the absorbance maximum at 870nm to 1015-970nm in the UV-VIS-NIR spectra were observed with increasing water content in the acetonitrile/water systems, indicating formation of fibrous…

Impulse interval-dependent effect of sympathetic nerve stimulation on evoked acetylcholine release from the rabbit perfused atria preparation.

1995

The aim of the present study was to explore possible prejunctional effects mediated by impulse activity of sympathetic terminals on evoked acetylcholine release in an organ innervated by the autonomic ground plexus. Rabbit atria were isolated with the extrinsic right vagus and sympathetic nerves intact and perfused with Tyrode solution. Acetylcholine overflow was determined after labelling of the transmitter stores with [14C]choline and fractionation of the radioactivity on cation exchange columns. The overflow of endogenous noradrenaline was measured by HPLC and electrochemical detection. The vagus nerve was stimulated at 2 Hz for 3 min four times at intervals of 10 min. During the second …

Zirconia Removable Telescopic Dentures Retained on Teeth or Implants for Maxilla Rehabilitation. Three-Year Observation of Three Cases

2010

Abstract This report addresses maxillary restoration with removable telescopic crown-retained palatal free dentures. One patient with 7 natural teeth (PERIO), a second patient with 6 dental implants (IMPL), and a third patient with 2 natural teeth and 4 dental implants (IMPL-PERIO) were treated. Zirconia copings for natural teeth and individual zirconia implant abutments were fabricated in CAD/CAM and used as primary crowns. Electroformed gold copings were used as secondary telescopes. All maxilla supraconstructions were fabricated with zirconia and CAD/CAM. Patients were monitored during a 3-year period; all teeth and implants survived, and no biological or mechanical complications occurre…

Oxidation of carboxylic acids in water at IrO2-Ta2O5 and Boron Doped Diamond anodes

2011

Abstract A detailed study was dedicated to the anodic oxidation of three carboxylic acids (namely, oxalic, formic and maleic acid) with the objective to evaluate in a systematic way the effect on the oxidation of carboxylic acids of numerous relevant parameters, including the nature and the concentration of the carboxylic acid, the alimentation regime (potentiostatic vs. amperostatic), the current density and the working potential values, the flowdynamic regime, the temperature and the nature of the electrode material. It was observed that the effect of some operative parameters strongly depends on the nature of the electrode and of the carboxylic acid. As an example, the efficacy of abatem…
