Low-energy epicardial pacing in children: the benefit of autocapture.
1999
Abstract Background . Permanent cardiac pacing in children results commonly in augmented energy consumption because of the high pacing rates and the ample stimulation safety margin applied in children. Cardiovascular anatomy and limited venous access sometimes preclude the otherwise preferred endocardial approach. In this multicenter patient series, we studied the feasibility, safety, and energy saving obtained by a combination of steroid-eluting epicardial leads with autocapture devices capable of ongoing adjustment of the stimulation output to the prevailing threshold. Methods . Autocapture devices (Pacesetter Microny SR+ and Regency SR+; Pacesetter, Solna, Sweden) and steroid-eluting epi…
Optimizing charge breeding techniques for ISOL facilities in Europe: conclusions from the EMILIE project
2015
ThuM07; International audience; The present paper summarizes the results obtained from the past few years in the framework ofthe Enhanced Multi-Ionization of short-Lived Isotopes for Eurisol (EMILIE) project. The EMILIEproject aims at improving the charge breeding techniques with both Electron Cyclotron ResonanceIon Sources (ECRIS) and Electron Beam Ion Sources (EBISs) for European Radioactive Ion Beam(RIB) facilities. Within EMILIE, an original technique for debunching the beam from EBIS chargebreeders is being developed, for making an optimal use of the capabilities of CW post-acceleratorsof the future facilities. Such a debunching technique should eventually resolve duty cycle andtime st…
Development of electrodes materials for SOFC fed by natural gas / biogas. Applications to "pre-reforming" and "single-chamber" concepts
2010
Solid Oxide Fuel Cell is a device for “clean” electricity production from chemical energy. The new configuration called “single-chamber” seems to be very attractive with several advantages over bi-chamber conventional configuration: easier manufacturing, lowering of working temperature, possible use of hydrocarbons as fuel… Such configuration involves the development of new electrode materials satisfying new requirements. The evaluation of 7 potential cathode materials through several characterizations has shown that a compromise has to be found since one material does not exhibit all the requested features. A library of 15 supported catalysts (3 metals and 5 supports) was developed. These …
Development of a process for the treatment of synthetic wastewater without energy inputs using the salinity gradient of wastewaters and a reverse ele…
2019
Abstract Electrochemical processes are considered very effective methods for the treatment of wastewater contaminated by organics resistant to conventional biological processes and various inorganic pollutants. Large sites that treat wastewaters usually deal with a large number of waters often characterized by different salinity contents, that could be potentially used to provide the energy necessary for the electrochemical remediation. Hence, in this work a reverse electrodialysis (RED) process for the treatment of synthetic wastewaters contaminated by organics, without energy inputs, using the salinity gradient of different wastewaters, was studied, for the first time. It was found that t…
Fabrication of Nanostructured Ni and Ni-Pd electrodes for wateralkaline electrolyzer
2016
In the last years many attention has been dedicated to the increase of performance of Nichel based electrodes to use in water-alkaline electrolyzes. In our preliminary work we have shown that alkaline electrolyzer made with Ni nanowires covered with IrO2 (side oxygen evolution) nanoparticles and a Ni sheet (side hydrogen evolution) have very good and stable performance also at room temperature [1]. In this work, to obtain a complete nanostructured electrolyzer, the attention was focused on the fabrication of electrodes for hydrogen evolution. In particular, by metal displacement deposition we have grown on Ni nanowires electrodes, nanoparticles of Pd with the aim to enhance the electrocatal…

Optimization of Electrodeposited Nickel-Zinc Alloys for Alkaline Electrolyzer with Nanostructured Electrodes
It is common opinion that hydrogen will become increasingly important over time. However, many research efforts still need to be made to develop efficient, low-cost and carbon-free hydrogen production. In this context, electrolysers will play a key role, but it is necessary to develop efficient and low-cost electrode/electrocatalyst materials. In this work, Nickel-Zinc alloy electrodes with nanowires morphology were investigated as cathode for alkaline electrolyzer. Electrodes were obtained by the simple method of template electrosynthesis that is also inexpensive and scalable. Nanostructured electrodes were analysed by morphological and chemical analyses. The nanowires composition is depen…
Performance of Nanostructured Electrode in Lead Acid Battery
2015
Lead acid batteries have a large number of potential advantages, but the high weight of lead limits their use in new technologies, like hybrid or electrical cars, which require light batteries with high specific energy. We tried to overtake this limit with nanostructured electrodes of PbO2 and Pb, obtained by electrodeposition in polycarbonate template. In the case of lead, to obtain electrodes with very good mechanical stability, a systematic investigation of electrodeposition process was needed to overcome the formation of dendrites that is the principal limitation of electrochemical production of metal lead. Nanostructured electrodes were tested in a zero gap configuration, using commerc…

Water desalination by capacitive electrodialysis: Experiments and modelling
2020
Abstract Electrodialysis-related technologies keep spreading in multiple fields, among which water desalination still plays a major role. A new technology that has not yet been thoroughly investigated is capacitive electrodialysis (CED), which couples the standard ED with capacitive electrodes. CED has a number of advantages such as removal of toxic products and system simplification. Little mention is made of this technology in the literature and, to the best of our knowledge, no modelling works have ever been presented. In this work, the CED process has been studied through experiments and modelling. A CED model is presented for the first time. With a simple calibration based on macroscop…
