Tetra-alkoxy substituted PPV derivatives: a new class of highly soluble liquid crystalline conjugated polymers
2011
Two first examples of highly soluble tetra-alkoxy substituted PPV derivatives, poly(2,3,5,6-tetrahexyloxy-1,4-phenylene vinylene) (TH-PPV) and poly[2,3,5,6-tetra(2'-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene vinylene] TEH-PPV, are presented. Both polymers have been fully characterized and the solubility and UV-Vis absorption characteristics have been studied in various organic solvents. Due to the symmetric nature of the repeating unit, TH-PPV and TEH-PPV have an inherently regioregular nature, which is unusual for PPV-type polymers. Observations from polarized light microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry indicate that TH-PPV exhibits thermally induced order resulting in a liquid crystalline m…
Light-emitting thin films of glassy forming organic compounds containing 2-tert-butyl-6-methyl-4H-pyran-4-ylidene
2012
Low molecular mass organic compounds which make thin films from volatile organic solutions would be great benefit in future organic light emitting systems. Two most important advantages could be mentioned. First - the repetition of synthesis of small molecules is better than for polymers. Second - wet casting methods could be used. In this work we are presenting optical, electroluminescence and amplified spontaneous emission properties of four original glassy forming compounds containing 2-tert-butyl-6-methyl-4H-pyran-4-ylidene fragment as backbone of the molecule. They has the same N,N-dialkylamino electron donating group with incorporated bulky trityloxy ethyl groups. The difference of th…
Twisted hexaazatrianthrylene: synthesis, optoelectronic properties and near-infrared electroluminescent heterojunctions thereof
2015
The synthesis, optoelectronic properties and near-infrared electroluminescent heterojunctions of a twisted and soluble 7,8,15,16,23,24-hexaazatrianthrylene derivative are reported.
Pyrene-fused bisphenazinothiadiazoles with red to NIR electroluminescence
2017
The synthesis and characterisation of two pyrene-fused phenazinothiadiazole derivatives with different substituents is described. Light-emitting diodes incorporating such derivatives display red to near-infrared electroluminescence with emission peaks at wavelengths as long as 721 nm, illustrating that pyrene-fused bisphenazinothiadiazoles can serve as deep red and NIR emitters.
Origin of the large spectral shift in electroluminescence in a blue light emitting cationic iridium(III) complex
2007
A new, but archetypal compound [ Ir( ppy- F-2) (2)Me(4)phen] PF6, where ppy- F2 is 2-(2',4'- fluorophenyl) pyridine and Me(4)phen is 3,4,7,8- tetramethyl- 1,10- phenanthroline, was synthesized and used to prepare a solid-state light-emitting electrochemical cell (LEEC). This complex emits blue light with a maximum at 476 nm when photoexcited in a thin film, with a photoluminescence quantum yield of 52%. It yields an efficient single-component solid-state electroluminescence device with a current efficiency reaching 5.5 cd A(-1) and a maximum power efficiency of 5.8 Lm Watt(-1). However, the electroluminescence spectrum is shifted with respect to the photoluminescence spectrum by 80 nm resul…
Effects of InAlN underlayer on deep traps detected in near-UV InGaN/GaN single quantum well light-emitting diodes
2019
Two types of near-UV light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with an InGaN/GaN single quantum well (QW) differing only in the presence or absence of an underlayer (UL) consisting of an InAlN/GaN superlattice (SL) were examined. The InAlN-based ULs were previously shown to dramatically improve internal quantum efficiency of near-UV LEDs, via a decrease in the density of deep traps responsible for nonradiative recombination in the QW region. The main differences between samples with and without UL were (a) a higher compensation of Mg acceptors in the p-GaN:Mg contact layer of the sample without UL, which correlates with the presence of traps with an activation energy of 0.06 eV in the QW region, (b) the…
Enhancing Light Emission in Interface Engineered Spin-OLEDs through Spin-Polarized Injection at High Voltages
2019
The quest for a spin-polarized organic light-emitting diode (spin-OLED) is a common goal in the emerging fields of molecular electronics and spintronics. In this device, two ferromagnetic (FM) electrodes are used to enhance the electroluminescence intensity of the OLED through a magnetic control of the spin polarization of the injected carriers. The major difficulty is that the driving voltage of an OLED device exceeds a few volts, while spin injection in organic materials is only efficient at low voltages. The fabrication of a spin-OLED that uses a conjugated polymer as bipolar spin collector layer and ferromagnetic electrodes is reported here. Through a careful engineering of the organic/…
Innovative Approaches for Light-Emitting Electrochemical Cells
2023
