Controlling diffusion of 3He by buffer gases: a structural contrast agent in lung MRI.

Purpose: To study the influence of admixing inert buffer gases to laser-polarized 3 He in terms of resulting diffusion coefficients and the consequences for image contrast and resolution. Materials and Methods: The diffusion coefficient of 3 He was altered by admixing buffer gases of various molecular weights ( 4 He, N2, and SF6). The influence of the pulse sequence and the diffusion coefficient on the appearance of MRI of (laserpolarized) gases was analyzed by comparison of basic theoretical concepts with demonstrative experiments. Rotational analysis of the v 2 + v 6 ±1, v 5 ∓1 + v 6 ∓1 and v 5 ∓1 + v 6 ±1 interacting infrared bands of methyl bromide

The rotational analysis of the infrared absorption spectrum of CH3 79Br and CH3 81Br between 2150 and 2510 cm-1 was performed on a Fourier transform spectrum with a resolution of 0·007 cm-1. The bands v 2 + v 6(E) and v 5 + v 6(A 1 + A 2 + E) occur in this region, giving rise to several perturbations as in the corresponding system of methyl chloride [3]. Forbidden transitions, observed in correspondence of the level crossing of the x-y Coriolis coupling between v 2 + v 6 and v 5 + v 6(E), enabled us to estimate the value of A″ - 225D″K at 5·16186 cm-1 for CH3 79Br and 5·16173 cm-1 for CH3 81Br. Synthesis and characterisation of [(C5Me4R)2NbS2]2M complexes (M = Fe, Co; R = Me, Et) : organometallic tetrathiometalates with niobocene ligands

Abstract Irradiation of Cp 2 ∗ Nb(η 2 S 2 )H (Cp ∗ = C 5 Me 5 ) 1a in the presence of Fe(CO) 5 gives the CO-free complex [Cp 2 ∗ NbS 2 ] 2 Fe 2a . The core of 2a contains an FeS 4 tetrahedron which is ligated by two niobocene ligands as shown by X-ray diffraction analysis. In the reaction of 1a or Cp 2 x Nb(η 2 S 2 )H (CP x = C 5 Me 4 Et) 1b with Co 2 (CO) 8 , compounds 3a and 3b of the same type are formed. Electrochemical studies of 2a and 3a,b show that they undergo three reversible 1e − steps. The oxidation of 3b exerts a considerable influence on its absorption spectrum. The reaction of S-methylisothiocarbohydrazide hydroiodide [H2NNHC(SCH3)NNH2·HI] with NiCl2·6H2O in water at room temperature yielded a triple-stranded dinickel(II) helicate [NiII(L1–L1)3NiII]I4·4H2O (14+·4I–·4H2O), where L1–L1 = H2NNHC(SCH3)NNC(SCH3)NHNH2, in 35 % yield, which spontaneously separates in enantiomers upon crystallization. The enantiomers do not racemize at room temperature, even not after 15 h of heating at 90 °C. X-ray diffraction structures of both enantiomers, chiroptical and magnetic properties of 14+·4I–·4H2O are reported. Optically-corrected elemental images for undistorted Integral image display

Conventional macro objectives are generally used as relay systems in the capture stage in Integral Imaging. This choice leads to microimage overlap and shift, which produce undesirable effects on the reconstructed three-dimensional images, such as loss in resolution and image distortions. In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a new architecture for the capture stage. Our method uses a telecentric relay system to overcome the conventional drawbacks. Experiments conducted with our system show an important improvement in the quality of displayed images.

Three-dimensional resolvability in an integral imaging system

The concept of three-dimensional (3D) resolvability of an integral imaging system is thoroughly investigated in this research. The general concept of 3D resolution fails to describe the 3D discrimination completely. Then the concepts of the depth-resolution plane and lateral-resolution plane are introduced to show the difference between the conventional 3D spatial resolution and the newly introduced 3D resolvability. Therefore, the different properties of these planes for differentiating lateral spatial variations and axial variations are analyzed in this paper. The theoretical statements are demonstrated experimentally.

3D Integral Microscopy based in far-field detection

Lately, Integral-Imaging systems have shown very promising capabilities of capturing the 3D structure of micro- scopic and macroscopic scenes. The aim of this work is to provide an optimal design for 3D-integral microscopy with extended depth of field and enhanced lateral resolution. By placing an array of microlenses at the aperture stop of the objective, this setup provides a set of orthographic views of the 3D sample. Adopting well known integral imaging reconstruction algorithms it can be shown that the depth of field as well as spatial resolution are improved with respect to conventional integral microscopy imaging. Three-dimensional imaging system with both improved lateral resolution and depth of field considering non-uniform system parameters

In this paper, we propose a new 3D passive image sensing and visualization technique to improve lateral resolution and depth of field (DoF) of integral imaging simultaneously. There is a resolution trade-off between lateral resolution and DoF in integral imaging. To overcome this issue, a large aperture and a small aperture can be used to record the elemental images to reduce the diffraction effect and extend the DoF, respectively. Proof of multilayer structural organization in self-assembled polycation-polyanion molecular films

Abstract Multilayer organization of ultrathin polycation-polyanion self-assembled films is demonstrated using two approaches. (1) Fabrication of polyion superlattices with alternation of three different polyelectrolytes in (ABCB) n fashion, which gives rise to a Bragg peak in X-ray reflectivity. The spacing d=93.4 A corresponds to the repeat unit (ABCB) n . (2) Drying-induced manipulation of the film surface at regular intervals. This work compares two possible solutions to achieve a higher resolution in a hodoscope based on Plastic Scintillating Fibers (PSF) by obtaining the point of maximum incidence of the radioactive beam. The two fitting algorithms proposed have been tested and implemented in Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) devices. On one hand, a probabilistic model based on the Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) and on the other hand, non-linear least-squares fit with the Levenberg-Marquardt Algorithm (LMA).
