Robust motion control of nonlinear quadrotor model with wind disturbance observer
2021
This paper focuses on robust wind disturbance rejection for nonlinear quadrotor models. By leveraging on nonlinear unknown observer theory, it proposes a nonlinear dynamic filter that, using sensors already on-board the aircraft, can estimate in real-time wind gust signals in the three dimensions. The wind disturbance is then treated as input to the PD controller for a quick and robust flight pathway in presence of disturbances. With this scheme, the wind disturbance can be precisely estimated online and compensated in real-time. Hence, the quadrotor can successfully reach its desired attitude and position. To show the effective and desired performance of the method, simulation results are …
Exploring social media network landscape of post-Soviet space
2019
The “post-Soviet space” consists of countries with a substantial fraction of the world’s population; however, unlike many other regions, its social media network landscape is still somewhat under-explored. This paper aims at filling this gap. To this purpose, we use anonymized data on user friendships at VK.com (also known as VKontakte and, informally, as “Russian Facebook”), which is the largest and most popular social media portal in the post-Soviet space with hundreds of millions of user accounts. Using the VK network snapshots from October 2015 to December 2016, we conduct a “multiscale” empirical study of this network by considering conn…
Field Reconstruction for Modeling Multiple Faults in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors in Transient States
2021
Conventional field reconstruction model (FRM) for electrical machines has proved its main strength in efficient computations of magnetic fields and forces in healthy permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSM) or faulty machines in steady states. This study aims to develop a magnet library of different magnet defects and include inter-turn short-circuit (ITSC) in the FRM for PMSM. The developed FRM can model a combination fault between ITSC, and magnet defect in a PMSM in transient states. Within the framework, an 8-turn ITSC was modelled in both finite element analysis (FEA) and FRM, and then identified by the extended Park’s vector approach. The air-gap magnetic field reproduced b…
A Realistic Model to Support Rescue Operations After an Earthquake via UAVs
2022
In this paper, we consider the problem of completely flying over an area just hit by an earthquake with a fleet of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to opportunely direct rescue teams. The cooperation between UAVs ensures that the search for possible survivors can be faster and more effective than the solutions currently implemented by civil protection. To study this scenario, we introduce the Cover by Multitrips with Priorities (CMP) problem, which tries to keep into account all the main real-life issues connected to the flight and coordination of the UAVs. We conduct a theoretical study to estimate the best number of UAVs and additional batteries, to give indications to the organization tha…
IEEE Access Special Section Editorial : Cloud and Big Data-Based Next-Generation Cognitive Radio Networks
2019
In cognitive radio networks (CRN), secondary users (SUs) are required to detect the presence of the licensed users, known as primary users (PUs), and to find spectrum holes for opportunistic spectrum access without causing harmful interference to PUs. However, due to complicated data processing, non-real-time information exchange and limited memory, SUs often suffer from imperfect sensing and unreliable spectrum access. Cloud computing can solve this problem by allowing the data to be stored and processed in a shared environment. Furthermore, the information from a massive number of SUs allows for more comprehensive information exchanges to assist the resource allocation and interference ma…
Energy Efficient Scheduling in Content Distribution Collaborative Mobile Clusters
2020
Most of the existing literatures on green communications aimed to improve the energy efficiency at the base station or data server. However, in order to fully experience high rate broadband multimedia services, prolonging the battery life of user equipment is also critical for the mobile terminals, especially for the smartphone users. In this work, we investigate the problem of designing a content distribution mobile platform named collaborative mobile clusters (CMC) via user cooperation to reduce the energy consumption at the terminal side. Specifically, given numbers of users interested in downloading a common content from the operator, both centralized and distributed user grouping and s…
GDL90fuzz: Fuzzing - GDL-90 Data Interface Specification Within Aviation Software and Avionics Devices–A Cybersecurity Pentesting Perspective
2022
As the core part of next-generation air transportation systems, the Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) is becoming very popular. However, many (if not most) ADS-B devices and implementations support and rely on Garmin’s GDL-90 protocol for data exchange and encapsulation. In this paper, we research GDL-90 protocol fuzzing options and demonstrate practical Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks on popular Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) software operating on mobile devices. For this purpose, we specifically configured our own avionics pentesting platform. and targeted the popular Garmin’s GDL-90 protocol as the industry-leading devices operate on it. We captured legitimate traffic from …
Joint Resource Allocation and UAV Scheduling With Ground Radio Station Sleeping
2021
Applications of Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have advanced rapidly in recent years. The UAVs are used for a variety of applications, including surveillance, disaster management, precision agriculture, weather forecasting, etc. In near future, the growing number of UAV applications would necessitate densification of UAV infrastructure (ground radio station (GRS) and ground control station (GCS)) at the expense of increased energy consumption for UAV communications. Maximizing the energy efficiency of this UAV infrastructure is important. Motivated by this, we propose joint resource allocation and UAV scheduling with GRS sleeping (GRSS). Further, we propose the use of coordinated multi-poi…
Safeguarding the Ultra-dense Networks with the aid of Physical Layer Security: A review and a case study
2016
In the wake of the extensive application of the fourth generation system, investigations of new technologies have been moving ahead vigorously to embrace the next generation communications in 2020. Thereinto, the technique of ultra-dense networks (UDNs) serves as a key enabler in meeting the roaring mobile traffic demands. With the prevalence of mobile Internet services especially those involve the mobile payment, security has gained an unprecedented amount of attention and become a highlighted feature for the fifth generation. Resource allocation, one of the most significant tools on getting over the obstacle of ubiquitous interference as well as elevating the spectrum/energy efficiency, h…
