Nonequilibrium electron spin relaxation in n-type doped GaAs sample

2019

Non-equilibrium electron spin relaxation in a n-type doped GaAs bulk semiconductor is investigated. We use a semiclassical Monte Carlo approach by considering multivalley spin dynamics of drifting electrons. Spin relaxation is considered through the D'yakonov-Perel mechanism, which is the dominant process in III-V semiconductors. An analytical expression for the inhomogeneous broadening of spin precession vector is derived by taking into account the effect of the electric field and the doping density. The inclusion of electron-electron scattering has the effect of increasing both the spin lifetime and the depolarization length. In particular, we find a non-monotonic trend with the maximum o…

Thermal form factors of the XXZ chain and the large-distance asymptotics of its temperature dependent correlation functions

2013

We derive expressions for the form factors of the quantum transfer matrix of the spin-1/2 XXZ chain which are suitable for taking the infinite Trotter number limit. These form factors determine the finitely many amplitudes in the leading asymptotics of the finite-temperature correlation functions of the model. We consider form-factor expansions of the longitudinal and transversal two-point functions. Remarkably, the formulae for the amplitudes are in both cases of the same form. We also explain how to adapt our formulae to the description of ground state correlation functions of the finite chain. The usefulness of our novel formulae is demonstrated by working out explicit results in the hig…

Asymptotics of correlation functions of the Heisenberg-Ising chain in the easy-axis regime

2016

We analyze the long-time large-distance asymptotics of the longitudinal correlation functions of the Heisenberg-Ising chain in the easy-axis regime. We show that in this regime the leading asymptotics of the dynamical two-point functions is entirely determined by the two-spinon contribution to their form factor expansion. Its explicit form is obtained from a saddle-point analysis of the corresponding double integral. It describes the propagation of a wave front with velocity $v_{c_1}$ which is found to be the maximal possible group velocity. Like in wave propagation in dispersive media the wave front is preceded by a precursor running ahead with velocity $v_{c_2}$. As a special case we obta…

Relaxation of Electron Spin during High-Field Transport in GaAs Bulk

2011

A semiclassical Monte Carlo approach is adopted to study the multivalley spin depolarization of drifting electrons in a doped n-type GaAs bulk semiconductor, in a wide range of lattice temperature ($40<T_L<300$ K) and doping density ($10^{13}<n<10^{16}$cm$^{-3}$). The decay of the initial non-equilibrium spin polarization of the conduction electrons is investigated as a function of the amplitude of the driving static electric field, ranging between 0.1 and 6 kV/cm, by considering the spin dynamics of electrons in both the $\Gamma$ and the upper valleys of the semiconductor. Doping density considerably affects spin relaxation at low temperature and weak intensity of the driving electric fiel…

Haldane Model at finite temperature

2019

We consider the Haldane model, a 2D topological insulator whose phase is defined by the Chern number. We study its phases as temperature varies by means of the Uhlmann number, a finite temperature generalization of the Chern number. Because of the relation between the Uhlmann number and the dynamical transverse conductivity of the system, we evaluate also the conductivity of the model. This analysis does not show any sign of a phase transition induced by the temperature, nonetheless it gives a better understanding of the fate of the topological phase with the increase of the temperature, and it provides another example of the usefulness of the Uhlmann number as a novel tool to study topolog…

Electron correlation in metal clusters, quantum dots and quantum rings

2009

This short review presents a few case studies of finite electron systems for which strong correlations play a dominant role. In simple metal clusters, the valence electrons determine stability and shape of the clusters. The ionic skeleton of alkali metals is soft, and cluster geometries are often solely determined by electron correlations. In quantum dots and rings, the electrons may be confined by an external electrostatic potential, formed by a gated heterostructure. In the low density limit, the electrons may form so-called Wigner molecules, for which the many-body quantum spectra reveal the classical vibration modes. High rotational states increase the tendency for the electrons to loca…

Topological Minimally Entangled States via Geometric Measure

2014

Here we show how the Minimally Entangled States (MES) of a 2d system with topological order can be identified using the geometric measure of entanglement. We show this by minimizing this measure for the doubled semion, doubled Fibonacci and toric code models on a torus with non-trivial topological partitions. Our calculations are done either quasi-exactly for small system sizes, or using the tensor network approach in [R. Orus, T.-C. Wei, O. Buerschaper, A. Garcia-Saez, arXiv:1406.0585] for large sizes. As a byproduct of our methods, we see that the minimisation of the geometric entanglement can also determine the number of Abelian quasiparticle excitations in a given model. The results in …

High-Temperature Series Analysis of the Free Energy and Susceptibility of the 2D Random-Bond Ising Model

1999

We derive high-temperature series expansions for the free energy and susceptibility of the two-dimensional random-bond Ising model with a symmetric bimodal distribution of two positive coupling strengths J_1 and J_2 and study the influence of the quenched, random bond-disorder on the critical behavior of the model. By analysing the series expansions over a wide range of coupling ratios J_2/J_1, covering the crossover from weak to strong disorder, we obtain for the susceptibility with two different methods compelling evidence for a singularity of the form $\chi \sim t^{-7/4} |\ln t|^{7/8}$, as predicted theoretically by Shalaev, Shankar, and Ludwig. For the specific heat our results are less…

Quantum vector spin-glass in a field: results for general spin

1991

Abstract In this paper we investigate the infinite-ranged quantum Heisenberg spin-glass in an applied field for a general spin s without the use of the static approximation. The Suzuki-Trotter method is used to map the system into a classical one for general spin s. Results for spin 1 2 and spin 1 are explicitly obtained and the phase diagram agrees qualitatively but not exactly with previous results obtained by us using the static approximation.

On form-factor expansions for the XXZ chain in the massive regime

2014

We study the large-volume-$L$ limit of form factors of the longitudinal spin operators for the XXZ spin-$1/2$ chain in the massive regime. We find that the individual form factors decay as $L^{-n}$, $n$ being an even integer counting the number of physical excitations -- the holes -- that constitute the excited state. Our expression allows us to derive the form-factor expansion of two-point spin-spin correlation functions in the thermodynamic limit $L\rightarrow +\infty$. The staggered magnetisation appears naturally as the first term in this expansion. We show that all other contributions to the two-point correlation function are exponentially small in the large-distance regime.
