Extra-tympanic electrocochleography in a normal population. A descriptive study.

Abstract Introduction and objectives Extra-tympanic electrocochleography is an electrophysiological register obtained after stimulating the cochlea with an audible stimulus. This stimulus is applied using an earphone over the external auditory canal, while the electrical activity is registered by surface electrodes. There are few studies that analyse normal electrocochleography in our environment. Thus, the main objective of our study was to regularise the values obtained with electrocochleography in ears without any otoneurological diseases. Perceptual Performance as a Function of Intra-Cycle Cardiac Activity

The purpose of the experiment was to test the hypothesis of a systematic change in perceptual performance within a single cardiac cycle due to the activity of the baroreceptors in carotid sinus. As an index of perceptual performance the ds-parameter from signal detection theory (TSD) was used. A 1000 Hz sine tone had to be detected in a background of white noise. Each of 4 subjects received on the average 4605 noise or noise plus tone stimuli distributed over 10 experimental sessions. Distraction effects in vision: behavioral and event-related potential indices.

Evidence is presented which shows that slight changes in serially presented visual input can be detected automatically and may result in behavioral distraction. In two experiments, reaction times on a two-alternative, forced-choice duration discrimination task were prolonged in trials where a task-irrelevant change in the location of the stimulus occurred. The P1 and N1 components of the event-related potential were enhanced in such trials. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of isometric training performed with progressive versus rapid rate of contraction on the knee extensor neuromuscular properties over a 7-wk period.Sixteen healthy male subjects trained quadriceps femoris muscle in a leg extension machine three times a week during 7 wk. Changes in neuromuscular function after tasks involving control of EMG versus torque feedback of the same duration.

This study was designed to compare alterations in neuromuscular function after two tasks of similar duration involving the control of (1) torque level fixed at 40% maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) torque (torque task) and (2) EMG level when exerting 40% MVC torque on the knee extensor muscles. Re-examination of training effects by electrostimulation in the human elbow musculoskeletal system.

This study examines the effects of a 7 weeks sub-maximal training period of electrostimulation on the maximal isometric, concentric, eccentric voluntary torque and muscle contractile properties of the elbow flexor muscles of nine subjects. The daily program consisted of five series of six 6-s isometric actions (60 to 70% of maximal isometric voluntary action) at an elbow angle of 90 . An electrophysiological study of dyslexic and control adults in a sentence reading task.

Event-related potentials and cued-recall performance were used to compare dyslexic and control adult subjects. Sentences that ended either congruously or incongruously were presented visually, one word at a time, at fast (stimulus-onset-asynchrony (SOA)=100 ms) or slow (SOA=700 ms) rates of presentation. Brain slow waves preceding time-locked visuo-motor performance.

According to previous findings (Konttinen and Lyytinen, 1992), the slow brain negativity preceding the trigger pull in rifle‐shooting tends to be decreased in successful shots among experienced marksmen, whereas no such pattern is found among inexperienced subjects.
