Os, Sr, Nd, Pb and O isotopes and trace element data are reported for basaltic andesite and andesite whole rocks and, in part, for selected mineral separates from the Jurassic Ferrar flood basalt province. Radiogenic Sr (> 0.709), unradiogenic Nd (εNd= −3 to −5), and radiogenic Pb isotopes, as well as low Nb/La ratios of 0.4 – 0.6 and Nb/La ratios between 0.45 and 0.6 are found for all rocks including our most primitive sample (Mg# = 71.9). The Influence of Acetylcholine and Choline on the Incorporation of Phosphate into Phospholipids of Etiolated Bean Hypocotyl Hooks

Summary Acetylcholine influenced the radiolabelling of phospholipids in vivo in etiolated hypocotyl tissue of dwarf beans in darkness. Under aerobic conditions the specific activity of the phospholipids was decreased and under anaerobic conditions increased. The biosynthesis of phospholipids was strongly increased by the bivalent cations calcium and manganese and decreased by 2,4-dinitrophenol, anaerobiosis, atropine and ascorbic acid. Magnesium stimulated the uptake of the radioactive phosphate but not the specific activity of the phospholipids. The results are discussed in comparison with the «phospholipid-effect» of acetylcholine in animal tissues.

Abstract A study has been made of the influence of caseinophosphopeptides (CPPs) added to a fruit beverage versus milk based fruit beverages upon iron retention, transport and uptake, using a combined simulated gastrointestinal digestion/Caco-2 cell system. Grape concentrate, orange concentrate, and apricot puree were used for sample formulation. Eight samples were assayed with/without added Fe sulphate (3 mg/100 ml fruit beverage) and/or added Zn sulphate (1.6 mg/100 ml fruit beverage), with/without skimmed milk (11% v/v). Summary Iron and zinc bioaccessibility was estimated in the in vitro gastrointestinal digests of six different fortified fruit beverages (Fb) containing iron and/or zinc and/or skimmed milk (M). Solubility values can be used to establish trends in relative bioavailability of iron and zinc, as the first stage towards mineral bioavailability comprises solubility in the intestinal tract. FbFe, FbFeM and FbFeZnM samples showed iron bioaccessibility above 88%, differing (P < 0.05) from those of FbFeZn (53%). International audience; In this paper, we compare the interactions between low methoxy pectin (LMP) and either Ca2+ or Zn2+ in semi-dilute solutions. Intrinsic viscosity and turbidity measurements reveal that pectin-calcium solutions are more viscous, but yet less turbid, than pectin-zinc ones. To get a molecular understanding on the origin of this rather unexpected behavior, we further performed isothermal titration calorimetry, small angle neutron scattering experiments, as well as molecular dynamics simulations. Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy determination of trace element composition of argan oil.

A methodology based on inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) after microwave assisted acid digestion has been developed to determine the trace element content of Moroccan argan oil. Limit of detection values equal or lower than few mg/kg were obtained for all elements under study. To assure the accuracy of the whole procedure, recovery studies were carried out on argan oil samples spiked at different concentration levels from 10 to 200 µg/L. Iron Bioavailability in Fortified Fruit Beverages Using Ferritin Synthesis by Caco-2 Cells

The bioavailability of iron from fortified fruit beverages was estimated by an in vitro system including enzymatic digestion, iron uptake by Caco-2 cells, and ferritin formation determined via an enzyme immunoassay (ELISA). Thus, the aim of the present study was to assess iron bioavailability as influenced by the presence of known dietary promoter and inhibitory factors in fortified fruit beverages containing iron and/or zinc and/or skimmed milk.
