The Question of Creativity in the Finnish Elementary School Curriculum

This article is intended to examine the role of creative education in the design of the national curriculum and the division of lesson hours during the period 2010-2014. During this process, pupils, private citizens and experts from different fields were given the opportunity to submit their contributions to the exercise. The article intends to examine whether the curriculum development exercise fulfilled the conditions for a wide democratic consultation process. We investigated the specificity of reading self-efficacy among second- to fifth-grade children in Finland (N = 1,327). Bandura (1997 Bandura, A. (1997). Self-efficacy: The exercise of control. New York, NY: Freeman. [Google Scholar] ) theorized that efficacy beliefs can be assessed at different levels of specificity; however, empirical support for this view is scarce among young children. Efficacy beliefs targeting reading-related activities were assessed at three specificity levels (general, intermediate, and specific). Some observations on the use of matrix modifiers in the determination of aluminum by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrophotometry

Abstract Some evidence demonstrating that the use of matrix modifiers is necessary to obtain good calibration lines in the determination of aluminum by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry is provided. It was found that the most sensitive results were obtained when Mg(NO 3 ) 2 was used instead of NH 4 H 2 PO 4 .

Determination of platinum and iridium in reforming catalysts by second derivative and absorptiometric spectrophotometry

Investigations on the spectrophotometric determination of platinum as a complex formed by tin(II)chloride in hydrochloric acid are reported. The determination of platinum was found to be interfered with by iridium, because it also forms a complex with tin(II) chloride. The features of the derivative absorption spectrophotometry for the quantitative determination of platinum and iridium was also studied. The analytical application of the method for the determination of platinum and iridium in catalysts was investigated.

Sodium Chloride and Magnesium Chloride affected by Ripening of Camembert Cheese

Ripening of cheese with three kinds of salt treatment was studied using MgCl 2 , NaCl or a mixture of the two. Proteolysis was followed by determination of TCA-soluble nitrogen and quantitative electrophoresis. A rapid one-step method for free fatty acids was used to determine short and long-chin fatty acids. In the presence of magnesium, proteolysis increased, even with NaCl, which seemed to delay the magnesium activation. Lipolysis was retarded by NaCl, which decreased the level of free fatty acids. An imbalance between proteolysis and lipolysis could be responsible for the unpleasant flavor of the cheese containing both MgCl 2 and NaCl

Visualization of inert gas wash-out during high-frequency oscillatory ventilation using fluorine-19 MRI

High-frequency oscillatory ventilation is looked upon as a lung-protective ventilation strategy. For a further clarification of the physical processes promoting gas transport, a visualization of gas flow and the distribution of ventilation are of considerable interest. Therefore, fluorine-19 magnetic resonance imaging of the imaging gas octafluorocyclobutane (C(4) F(8) ) during high-frequency oscillatory ventilation was performed in five healthy pigs.
