Toward a refined conceptualization of IS discontinuance : Reflection on the past and a way forward

Interest in studying information systems discontinuance has been increasing lately, yet there is no consensus on what it means. To improve the situation, we conduct a comprehensive review of current literature on IS discontinuance and identify 55 studies published during 1991–2017 that specifically focus on the topic. Our conceptual analysis disentangles the process, content, and context of the phenomenon, revealing that over the course of a typical IS lifecycle, IS discontinuance may materialize at least in five distinct forms: rejection, regressive discontinuance, quitting, temporary discontinuance, and replacement. Assessment of environmental impacts with life cycle methods in nanotechnology industry

This thesis inspected how nanotechnology companies in Finland have been assessing the environmental impacts of their products and processes. The research focused on using life cycle based methods that take into account the environmental impacts during the whole lifetime of a product. The subject was studied mainly through three qualitative case studies. Millidyne Oy, Vaisala Oyj and UPM-Kymmene Oyj were interviewed. Also quantitative research was used to some extend in the form of a company questionnaire. Hybridization selects for prime‐numbered life cycles in Magicicada: An individual‐based simulation model of a structured periodical cicada population

Abstract We investigate competition between separate periodical cicada populations each possessing different life‐cycle lengths. We build an individual‐based model to simulate the cicada life cycle and allow random migrations to occur between patches inhabited by the different populations. We show that if hybridization between different cycle lengths produces offspring that have an intermediate life‐cycle length, then predation acts disproportionately to select against the hybrid offspring. Tämä tutkielma on kirjallisuuskatsaus, joka antaa yleissilmäyksen erilaisiin elinkaarimetodeihin, joilla voidaan arvioida nanoteknologiaa sisältävien tuotteiden ympäristövaikutuksia. Työssä selvitetään elinkaariajattelun tärkeys ja kuvataan erilaisia ympäristöarviointimenetelmiä. Tässä tutkielmassa tarkastellut menetelmät ovat elinkaariarvionti (LCA), hiilijalanjälki, vesijalanjälki, ekologinen jalanjälki ja ekologinen selkäreppu (MIPS). Työ käsittelee nanoteknologiaan liittyviä ympäristöasioita ja tarkastelee elinkaarimenetelmien soveltamista ja soveltuvuutta nanoteknologiaan.
