The aim of this essay is to address the challenges and problems in communicating with horses and interpreting their communication in everyday handling and training situations. We seek ways to learn more about equine communication and agency in the prevention of cruelty against animals and in enhancing animal welfare. Ylen tutkivan journalismin ohjelma MOT julkaisi 26.10.2015 videomateriaalia suomalaisilta teurastamoilta. Videoilla näkyy eläinten lisäksi laitosten käytäntöjä ja toimintatapoja, toisin sanoen toimintaa ja toimijoita. Tutkimukseni tavoitteena on selvittää, millä tavalla teurastamista kuvataan videoiden jälkeen ilmestyneissä lehtijutuissa. Teurastamisen represennoinnissa olennaista on videoiden luoma konteksti. Tutkimuksen teoreettinen viitekehys perustuu Norman Fairclough’n kriittiseen diskurssianalyysiin. Pirita Juppi tutki väitöskirjassaan eläinoikeusliikkeen suomalaisessa sanomalehdistössä saamaa julkisuutta. This study explores the media coverage of the Finnish animal rights movement. The focus is on the contesting representations constructed in various discourses by various participants of newspaper texts. The data consists of 1204 news and other journalistic items collected from nine Finnish national and regional newspapers between 1995 and 2000.
