Wache Videolaryngoskopie

2016

Introduction Awake video laryngoscopy is a novel option in airway management that is drawing more and more attention as an alternative to awake endoscopic guided intubation.Main issues: Intubation under preserved spontaneous breathing is the safest method to secure the expected difficult airway. In direct comparisons to awake flexible endoscopic intubation, awake video laryngoscopy achieves satisfactory intubation times and a high acceptance of patients and anesthesiologists. Specific cases, in particular very limited mouth opening or sub-glottic masses, require awake flexible endoscopic intubation. Sufficient topical anesthesia and a sophisticated sedation protocol are prerequisites for su…

Renal function is impaired in normotensive chronic HCV patients: role of insulin resistance.

2015

Renal dysfunction is an independent predictor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. We investigated whether chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and the related insulin resistance/hyperinsulinemia influence renal function in comparison with a group of healthy subjects and with another group with metabolic syndrome. We enrolled 130 newly diagnosed HCV outpatients matched for age and gender with 130 patients with metabolic syndrome and 130 healthy subjects. Renal function was evaluated by calculation of glomerular filtration rate (e-GFR, mL/min/1.73 m2) using the CKD-EPI equation. The following laboratory parameters were measured: fasting plasma glucose and insulin, total, LDL- and…

Aceruloplasminemia: a case report

2008

Hereditary aceruloplasminemia is a rare autosomal recessive disease, firstly identified by Miyajima et al. in Japan in 1987 [1]. The disease is caused by the absence of an a2glycoprotein, the ceruloplasmin (Cp), a copper-containing ferroxidase, mainly synthesized in hepatocytes and widely expressed, including the central nervous system, which catalyses the oxidation of ferrous to ferric iron, a change required for release of iron to plasma transferrin [2]. It is hypothesized that in reticuloendothelial (RE) cells and hepatocytes Cp cooperates to export iron with the iron exporter protein ferroportin 1 (FPN1) [3]. As a consequence, Cp deficiency results in iron deposition in the liver, pancr…

Evolution of Pediatric Migraine Patients Admitted at an Emergency Department after a 10-Year Follow-Up

2023

Background: Despite its high prevalence, the clinical course of pediatric migraine has not been fully understood, and previous studies present conflicting results. We present here the findings of a 10-year follow-up study involving children with severe migraine pain admitted to our emergency department. Furthermore, all studies were carried out on selected outpatient clinical case studies. Our aim was to evaluate a population of migraine children admitted to an emergency department because of increased severity or frequency of pain or even because of very anxious parents concerning their child’s headache in order to describe their long-term outcomes, whether it differed from that of o…
