After the Second World War Ryszard Zakrzewski (1913–1994) was a well-known exile political and social activist in Great Britain. In the late 1940s he became one of the leaders of the Polish Socialist Party in emigration. He was also active in the Polish Ex-Combatants’ Association and the Federation of Poles in Great Britain. In 1956, the intelligence of the Polish People’s Republic got interested in his person. Over the next few years Zakrzewski maintained contacts with intelligence officers, employed as diplomats at the Polish Embassy in London. This article analyzes the results of foreign and domestic scientists in the field of labor migration and the factors of this phenomenon. Based on previous researches, factors have been grouped into four main categories, which include all areas of life of existing and potential migrants, such as economic and political, social and climatic. Labor migration is constantly growing. Thus, according to the UN estimates, the number of migrant workers in the world in 2019 amounted to 272 million people, ie 3.5 % of the population, compared to 2010, the figure increased by 56.25 %. Wskazane zostały powody wyjazdów oraz zakres działalności polskiej diaspory (politycznej, naukowej, kulturalnej, rzemieślniczej). This study explored new possibilities for measuring the sense of belonging to the country and investigated predictors of the sense of belonging to Latvia. Focusing on students’ sense of belonging to the country is explained by two reasons: 1) emigration is the main factor of depopulation in Latvia; 2) students’ intention to emigrate is the highest among other social groups. Studies in the field of community psychology present models of the sense of community and explore intentions to stay in a particular place. Artykuł jest próbą nakreślenia obrazu ludności Górnego Śląska w latach 1950–1989, jaki udało się odtworzyć na podstawie wybranych materiałów źródłowych, pochodzących z polskich i niemieckich archiwów. Uwaga opracowania skupiona jest przy tym na problemie różnic w postrzeganiu ludności Górnego Śląska przez polskie i niemieckie władze (Republiki Federalnej Niemiec).
