Sequestrati dalla vendetta: “rimanere chiusi fuori dall’oggetto”

2013

Land surface temperature representativeness in a heterogeneous area through a distributed energy-water balance model and remote sensing data

2010

Land surface temperature is the link between soil-vegetation-atmosphere fluxes and soil water content through the energy water balance. This paper analyses the representativeness of land surface temperature (LST) for a distributed hydrological water balance model (FEST-EWB) using LST from AHS (airborne hyperspectral scanner), with a spatial resolution between 2–4 m, LST from MODIS, with a spatial resolution of 1000 m, and thermal infrared radiometric ground measurements that are compared with the representative equilibrium temperature that closes the energy balance equation in the distributed hydrological model.

Diurnal and nocturnal images are analyzed due to the non s…

Mapping daily evapotranspiration at field to continental scales using geostationary and polar orbiting satellite imagery

2011

Abstract. Thermal infrared (TIR) remote sensing of land-surface temperature (LST) provides valuable information about the sub-surface moisture status required for estimating evapotranspiration (ET) and detecting the onset and severity of drought. While empirical indices measuring anomalies in LST and vegetation amount (e.g., as quantified by the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index; NDVI) have demonstrated utility in monitoring ET and drought conditions over large areas, they may provide ambiguous results when other factors (e.g., air temperature, advection) are affecting plant functioning. A more physically based interpretation of LST and NDVI and their relationship to sub-surface moistu…

Shoreline Extraction and Change Detection using 1:5000 Scale Orthophoto Maps: A Case Study of Latvia-Riga

2015

Coastal management requires rapid, up-to-date, and
correct information. Thus, the determination of coastal movements and its
directions has primary importance for coastal managers. For monitoring the
change of shorelines, remote sensing data, very high resolution aerial images
and orthophoto maps are utilized for detections of change on shorelines. It is
possible to monitor coastal changes by extracting the coastline from orthophoto
maps. Along the Baltic Sea and Riga Gulf, Latvian coastline length is 496 km.
It is rich of coastal resources and natural biodiversity. Around 120 km of coastline are affected by
significant coastal chang…

Emotional Intelligence and Psychobiosocial States: Mediating Effects of Intra-Team Communication and Role Ambiguity

2020

Emotional intelligence is an important variable related to the interaction and functioning of sports teams. The present study examined the relationship between players’ trait emotional intelligence and functional and dysfunctional psychobiosocial states. In particular, we examined the mediating effects of intra-team communication efficacy and role ambiguity in this relationship. The participants were 291 (174 men and 117 women) Italian players involved in various team sports (i.e., futsal, soccer, volleyball, handball, and rugby). They completed a multi-section questionnaire assessing the study variables during the early/middle part of their competitive seasons. Structural equation modeling…

Leukotriene B4-loaded microspheres: a new therapeutic strategy to modulate cell activation

2008

AbstractBackgroundLeukotriene B4(LTB4) is a potent inflammatory mediator that also stimulates the immune response. In addition, it promotes polymorphonuclear leukocyte phagocytosis, chemotaxis, chemokinesis and modulates cytokines release. Regarding chemical instability of the leukotriene molecule, in the present study we assessed the immunomodulatory activities conferred by LTB4released from microspheres (MS). A previous oil-in-water emulsion solvent extraction-evaporation method was chosen to prepare LTB4-loaded MS.ResultsIn the mice cremasteric microcirculation, intraescrotal injection of 0.1 ml of LTB4-loaded MS provoked significant increases in leukocyte rolling flux, adhesion and emig…

Low molecular weight heparins in cancer patients: to treat thromboembolic events, the tumor, or both?

2011

The interrelationship between cancer and thrombosis is well known. Recent data help physicians to optimize the management of thrombotic complications occurring in cancer patients. However, many issues are still uncertain. First, although the development of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in a patient with known cancer is the most common presentation, concerns remain about the optimal duration and dosages of anticoagulants. Questions also arise concerning the need to implement heparin prophylaxis in the course of chemotherapy. Secondly, in some patients, thrombosis precedes the diagnosis of malignancy. In this case, the question is whether or not to screen patients for an occult cancer. Thirdly…

Emotional and meta-emotional intelligence as predictors of adjustment problems in students with Specific Learning Disorders

2017

The purpose of this study was to analyse adjustment problems in a group of adolescents with a Specific Learning Disorder (SLD), examining to what extent they depend on the severity level of the learning disorder and/or on the individual‟s level of emotional intelligence. Adjustment problems,, perceived severity levels of SLD, and emotional and meta-emotional intelligence were examined in 34 adolescents with SLD. Results demonstrated that emotional beliefs, emotional self-concept and emotional intelligence are very important factors in the psychological adjustment of adolescents with SLD. These results provide evidence for the importance of considering meta-emotional intelligence in both dia…

“Waiting for the Bass to Drop”: Correlations Between Intense Emotional Experiences and Production Techniques in Build-up and Drop Sections of Electro…

2014

This study investigates the correlations between theories of intense emotional experiences and production techniques used in the electronic dance music (EDM) sections “build-up” and “drop”, which are designed to build tension and create a heightened emotional intensity among clubbers. This is done by descriptive and interpretive music analysis, where spectrograms and a schematic model visually represent the dominant production techniques. Through a theoretical framework consisting of musical expectancy and gravity, the analysis suggests that i) extensive use of uplifters, ii) the “drum roll effect”, iii) large frequency changes, iv) removal and reintroduction of bass and bass drum and v) a …

Theoretical Proposals on How Vertical Harmony May Convey Nostalgia and Longing in Music

2015

Music is often associated with the emotions of nostalgia and longing. According to previous survey studies both nostalgia and longing are among the most commonly evoked emotions by music (Juslin, 2011). Despite nostalgia’s significance as a musical emotion, research on the specific properties of music that might contribute to this particular emotion has been scarce. A recent empirical experiment by Lahdelma and Eerola (2014) sought to explore whether single chords could be effective at conveying musical emotions to listeners, which spanned complex emotions such as nostalgia. According to the results single chords such as the minor triad, the minor seventh and the major se…
