Study of doubly strange systems using stored antiprotons

Bound nuclear systems with two units of strangeness are still poorly known despite their importance for many strong interaction phenomena. Stored antiprotons beams in the GeV range represent an unparalleled factory for various hyperon-antihyperon pairs. Their outstanding large production probability in antiproton collisions will open the floodgates for a series of new studies of systems which contain two or even more units of strangeness at the PANDA experiment at FAIR. Complex permittivity of FeCl3/AOT/CCl4 microemulsions probed by AC impedance spectroscopy

Abstract The complex permittivity of FeCl 3 /AOT/CCl 4 microemulsions in the 1–10 5  Hz frequency range has been measured by the conventional AC complex impedance technique. Measurements as a function of the volume fraction of the dispersed phase (FeCl 3  + AOT) and temperature at fixed salt-to-AOT molar ratio ( R , R  = 0.5) show that the entrapment of FeCl 3 clusters significantly enhances the local permittivity of the AOT reverse micelles and the number density of charge carriers resulting from the peculiar state of the confined inorganic salt. Interfaces in polymer blends

We investigate the structure and thermodynamics of interfaces in dense polymer blends using Monte Carlo (MC) simulations and self-consistent field (SCF) calculations. For structurally symmetric blends we find quantitative agreement between the MC simulations and the SCF calculations for excess quantities of the interface (e.g., interfacial tension or enrichment of copolymers at the interface). However, a quantitative comparison between profiles across the interface in the MC simulations and the SCF calculations has to take due account of capillary waves. Methods of protein surface PEGylation under structure preservation for the emulsion-based formation of stable nanoparticles

Proteins show remarkable versatility as multifunctional materials for therapeutic applications. They can be easily modified with the toolkit of bioorganic chemistry and are particularly attractive because of their degradability and biocompatibility. Herein, we evaluate different methods for the attachment of multiple PEG chains on the surface of the enzyme lysozyme. Influence of emulsified fat on chlorpromazine availability in rabbit blood.

Kaninchen uberlebten die letale Dosis von 30 mg/kg Chlorpromazin (i.v.) nur zusammen mit einer Fettinfusion (0,5 ml/kg/min Lipofundin S 10®). Es konnte in vitro gezeigt werden, dass der Zusatz einer Fettemulsion (Lipofundin S 10®) zu Kaninchenblut (25 mg Fett/ml) den Anteil an freiem Chlorpromazin (Gesamtkonzentration 10−4M) von 2,05% auf 0,87% herabsetzt.

Entrapment of Phenytoin into Microspheres of Oleaginous Materials: Process Development and in Vitro Evaluation of Drug Release

AbstractA novel multiparticulate preparation of the antiepileptic agent phenytoin (1) was developed and evaluated in vitro. The preparation consists of gastroresistant microparticulate drug delivery system formulated with oleaginous material (lipospheres) to minimize unwanted effects of l on gastric apparatus. The drug was dispersed in a spherical micromatrix consisting of a mixture of stearyl alcohol and glycerol esters of various fatty acids. Carnauba wax microspheres loaded with valproic acid: Preparation and evaluation of drug release

AbstractTo minimize unwanted toxic effects of valproic acid (1) by the kinetic control of drug release, gastroresistant carnauba wax microspheres loaded with the antiepileptic agent were prepared. The preparation was based on a technique involving melting and dispersion of drug-containing wax in an aqueous medium. The resulting emulsion after cooling under rapid stirring produced solid, discrete, reproducible free flowing microspheres which converted the liquid drug droplets into solid material. Small angle neutron scattering studies of critical phenomena in a three-component microemulsion

Critical density fluctuations of a ``water-in-oil`` microemulsion consisting of water, benzene, and BHDC (benzyldimethyl-n-hexadecyl ammonium chloride) were observed near the phase boundary by SANS. Observed profiles were well described by product of a form factor of spherical droplets and a structure factor, consisting of a term describing the inter-droplet correlations and also an Ornstein- Zernike component describing the droplet density fluctuations. Nanosized shape-changing colloids from liquid crystalline elastomers.

A method to prepare shape-changing nanospheres from liquid crystalline elastomers is reported. The nanosized colloids are prepared by a miniemulsion process. During this process, colloids are prepared from a liquid crystalline (LC) main-chain polyester and subsequently crosslinked into a nanometer-sized LC elastomer. The ability of these LC elastomers to change their shape at the phase transition temperature from the smectic A to the isotropic phase was detected by temperature-dependent transmission electron microscopy. The phase transition-induced shape change leads to strongly shape anisotropic nanosized elastomer particles.
