Fast spiking neural network architecture for low-cost FPGA devices

Spiking Neural Networks (SNN) consist of fully interconnected computation units (neurons) based on spike processing. This type of networks resembles those found in biological systems studied by neuroscientists. This paper shows a hardware implementation for SNN. First, SNN require the inputs to be spikes, being necessary a conversion system (encoding) from digital values into spikes. Frequency spike encoding using Gabor-like receptive fields

Abstract Spiking Neural Networks (SNN) are a popular field of study. For a proper development of SNN algorithms and applications, special encoding methods are required. Signal encoding is the first step since signals need to be converted into spike trains as the primary input to an SNN. We present an efficient frequency encoding system using receptive fields. The proposed encoding is versatile and it can provide simple image transforms like edge detection, spot detection or removal, or Gabor-like filtering. The proposed encoding can be used in many application areas as image processing and signal processing for detection and classification.

Abstract Motivation K-mers along with their frequency have served as an elementary building block for error correction, repeat detection, multiple sequence alignment, genome assembly, etc., attracting intensive studies in k-mer counting. However, the output of k-mer counters itself is large; very often, it is too large to fit into main memory, leading to highly narrowed usability. Finding the locations of departments or machines in a workspace is classified as a Facility Layout Problem. Good placement of departments has a relevant influence on manufacturing costs, work in process, lead times and production efficiency. A multi objective genetic algorithm for the facility layout problem based upon slicing structure encoding

This paper proposes a new multi objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) for solving unequal area facility layout problems (UA-FLPs). The genetic algorithm suggested is based upon the slicing structure where the relative locations of the facilities on the floor are represented by a location matrix encoded in two chromosomes. Including invariances in SVM remote sensing image classification

This paper introduces a simple method to include invariances in support vector machine (SVM) for remote sensing image classification. We rely on the concept of virtual support vectors, by which the SVM is trained with both the selected support vectors and synthetic examples encoding the invariance of interest. The algorithm is very simple and effective, as demonstrated in two particularly interesting examples: invariance to the presence of shadows and to rotations in patchbased image segmentation. Our perception of time varies with the degree of cognitive engagement in tasks. The perceived passage of time accelerates while working on demanding tasks, whereas time appears to drag during boring situations. We develop technics of birational geometry to study automorphisms of affine surfaces admitting many distinct rational fibrations, with a particular focus on the interactions between automorphisms and these fibrations. In particular, we associate to each surface S of this type a graph encoding equivalence classes of rational fibrations from which it is possible to decide for instance if the automorphism group of S is generated by automorphisms preserving these fibrations.

OpenCMISS: A multi-physics & multi-scale computational infrastructure for the VPH/Physiome project
