Efficacy of removing Thermafil and GuttaCore from straight root canal systems using a novel non-surgical root canal re-treatment system : a micro-com…

2021

The present study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an XP-endo non-surgical root canal re-treatment system in removing both GuttaCore and Thermafil gutta-percha carrier-based root canal filling materials from straight root canal systems using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) analysis. The study was performed on 20 single-rooted upper teeth, which were randomly allocated into the following study groups: Group A, Thermafil and AH Plus sealer (n = 10)

Plywood Jig—A New Technique for Root Canal Curvature Measurement

2021

The successful outcome of endodontic treatment is dependent on complete cleaning, shaping as well as three dimensional obturation of the root canal system. A conventional radiograph is a two-dimensional replication of a three-dimensional object and does not provide any conclusive evidence for canal curvatures. An accurate knowledge of the tooth anatomy and curvature is essential to avoid procedural errors. 100 freshly extracted human teeth were used in this study. Digital images were obtained using the plywood JIG and Schneider’s technique. These images were analyzed using the VixWin Pro digital image analyzing software (Gendex system). Statistical analysis was done using paired t test. The…

2015

Background: to compare the shear bond strength of brackets with and without enamel etching. Material and Methods: In this study, 60 sound premolars were randomly divided into four different groups: 1- TXE group: Enamel etching + Transbond XT adhesive + Transbond XT composite. 2- TXS group: Transbond plus self-etch adhesive + Transbond XT composite. 3- PQ1E group: Enamel etching + PQ1 adhesive + Transbond XT composite. 4- PQ1 group: PQ1 adhesive + Transbond XT composite. The shear bond strengths of brackets were evaluated using universal testing machine at cross head speed of 0.5 mm/ min. The Adhesive Remnant Index (ARI) was also measured. One-way ANOVA, Tukey’s post hoc, Kruskal-wallis and …

Effect of thermocycling and surface treatment on repair bond strength of composite.

2017

BACKGROUND Repair of composite restorations is a conservative method that can increase the longevity and durability of restorations while preserving the tooth structure. Achieving a suitable bond between the old and new composite is difficult. To overcome this problem, some methods have been recommended to increase the repair bond strength of composite. This study aimed to assess the effect of aging by thermocycling (5,000 and 10,000 cycles) and mechanical surface treatments (Er,Cr:YSGG laser and bur) on repair shear bond strength of composite resin. MATERIAL AND METHODS Totally, 120 composite blocks measuring 6x4x4 mm were fabricated of Filtek Z250 composite and were randomly divided into t…

Mechanical and dentin bond strength properties of the nanosilver enriched glass ionomer cement

2019

Background The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanical properties and dentin microshear bond strength of a conventional glass ionomer cement (GIC) compared to GIC supplemented with silver nanoparticles (SNPs) at 0.1% and 0.2% (w/w). Material and Methods SNPs were incorporated into a conventional GIC at 0.1% and 0.2% (w/w). The unmodified GIC was used as the control group. Compressive strength, flexural strength, and micro-shear bond strength (µSBS) to dentin were evaluated using a universal testing machine. Surface microhardness was determined using a Vickers microhardness tester. The data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s test. Results GICs co…

Shear bond strength of one-step self-etch adhesives to dentin: Evaluation of NaOCl pretreatment

2018

Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of dentin pretreatment with NaOCl on shear bond strength of four one-step self-etch adhesives with different pH values. Material and methods Bovine permanent incisors were used. Four one-step self-etch adhesives were tested: Adper™ Easy Bond, Futurabond NR, G-aenial Bond, Clearfil S3 Bond. One two-step self-etch adhesive (Clearfil SE Bond) was used as control. Group 1- no pretreatment; group 2- pretratment with 5,25 % NaOCl; group 3- pretreatment with 37 % H3PO4 etching and 5,25 % NaOCl. A hybrid composite resin was inserted into the dentin surface. The specimens were tested in a universal testing machine. The examiners evaluate…

Fracture resistance of roots filled with three different obturation techniques

2012

Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare in vitro root fracture resistance following root canal filling with AH 26 using lateral condensation, BeeFill, and Thermafil techniques. Study Design: Eighty extracted human mandibular premolars with similar dimensions were selected. In order to standardize the roots, measurements were taken in two separate regions of the teeth—at the cemento-enamel junction and 8 mm apically from the junction—buccolingual as well as mesiodistal for every tooth. Teeth were then randomly divided into five groups (n=16). With the exception of the non-prepared group (Group 1), instrumentation was done in all groups. In group 2, instrumentation but no filling was…

Influence of operator’s experience on the shaping and centering ability of WaveOne single-file system

2015

Aim. The aim of this study was to assess the influence of operator experience on the centering ability of WaveOne reciprocating system on S-shape simulated root canals. Methods. Forty S-shaped canals in resin blocks were assigned in two groups (n=20 for each group). Groups 1 was shaped by an expert operator, postgraduate in endodontics with more of ten years experience, while a not expert operator, a student in the last year of study, with poor endodontic experience performed shaping in Groups 2. A first survey of canals has been made with K-file 10 to assess the working length (WL), after that the glide path was achieved with PathFile 1, 2, and 3 (Dentsply Maillefer) at the WL. Subsequentl…

Color stability of Bulk-Fill composite restorations

2020

Made available in DSpace on 2022-04-28T19:29:50Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2020-11-01 Background: The color stability of the composite resin is an important property that influences its clinical longevity, which remains an inherent challenge to the material. Thus, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the color stability of bulk-fill resins when exposed to dye. Material and Methods: Cavities were prepared in 80 bovine incisors, which were randomly assigned into 4 groups (n = 20) according with the resin composite used: P60 (Control Group - Filtek P60, 3M/ESPE), FP (Filtek Bulk-Fill Posterior, 3M/ESPE), SDR (SDR, Dentsply) and FF (Filtek Bulk Fill Flow, 3M/ESPE). Vertical root fracture in endodontically treated teeth: A review of 25 cases

2001

Abstract Objective: We sought to examine the clinical conditions under which 25 endodontically treated teeth underwent vertical root fracture (VRF) and to relate this condition to the time elapsed from endodontic treatment to fracture. Study Design: This was a retrospective study in which we reviewed 25 case histories of patients with postendodontic VRF and studied the effect of various pretreatment and posttreatment factors as they related to VRF. Results And Conclusions: The mean time to VRF was 54 months; this was not significantly influenced by the presence or absence of prior restoration or by the presence or absence of a crown fitting. The use of a prefabricated, cylindrical, cemented…
