Parametric study of laser welding of copper to austenitic stainless steel
2018
Abstract Welding of copper to stainless steel is challenging because of sharp difference in thermophysical properties of materials and the presence of miscibility gap in Fe-Cu system. The parametric study of continuous Yb:YAG laser welding between copper and austenitic stainless steel 316L has been performed. The influence of laser power, welding speed and beam offset from joint line on weld composition, microstructure and tensile properties was studied. The corrosion behaviour of the welds was evaluated in 0.1M NaCl with the potentiostatic pulse testing method, salt fog and immersion tests. In function of copper dilution in the melted zone, different types of microstructure were observed: …

Optically detected magnetic resonances of nitrogen-vacancy ensembles inC13-enriched diamond
2016
We present an experimental and theoretical study of the optically detected magnetic resonance signals for ensembles of negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in a $^{13}\mathrm{C}$ isotopically enriched single-crystal diamond. We observe four broad transition peaks with superimposed sharp features at zero magnetic field and study their dependence on an applied magnetic field. A theoretical model that reproduces all qualitative features of these spectra is developed. Understanding the magnetic-resonance spectra of NV centers in an isotopically enriched diamond is important for emerging applications in nuclear magnetic resonance.
Influence of the composition of titanium oxynitride layers on the fretting behavior of functionalized titanium substrates: PVD films versus surface l…
2014
International audience; Abstract In this work we compared the fretting behavior of pure titanium plates functionalized with titanium oxynitride surface layers, obtained by two methods: a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) method, reactive magnetron sputtering, and Surface Laser Treatments (SLT), under different mixtures of oxygen and nitrogen. The composition of the layers was determined by nuclear reaction analysis (NRA) and their structure was analyzed by Raman spectroscopy. PVD layers were TiN-like fcc layers, with an oxygen concentration going from 36 to 50 at.%. Three SLT layers were studied. The first one was a TiN-like layer containing ~28 at.% of oxygen. The second one was formed of di…
Insights into the formation of metal carbon nanocomposites for energy storage using hybrid NiFe layered double hydroxides as precursors
2020
[EN] NiFe-carbon magnetic nanocomposites prepared using hybrid sebacate intercalated layered double hydroxides (LDHs) as precursors are shown to be of interest as supercapacitors. Here, the low-temperature formation mechanism of these materials has been deciphered by means of a combined study using complementaryin situ(temperature-dependent) techniques. Specifically, studies involving X-ray powder diffraction, thermogravimetry coupled to mass spectrometry (TG-MS), statistical Raman spectroscopy (SRS), aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) have been carried out. The experimental results confirm the early formation o…
An epitaxial hexagonal tungsten bronze as precursor for WO3 nanorods on mica.
2008
International audience; Tungsten oxide nanorods are grown at atmospheric pressure and low temperature (360 1C), by sublimation of WO3 and condensation on mica substrates. The nanorods are characterized by atomic force microscopy, high-resolution electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and high energy electron diffraction. The experimental results evidence the formation of a hexagonal tungsten bronze at the nanorod–substrate interface. The epitaxial relationships of the nanorods on mica are determined and the role of epitaxial orientation of the interfacial bronze in the nanorod growth and morphology are discussed.
Photo-acoustic excitation and detection of guided ultrasonic waves in bone samples covered by a soft coating layer
2012
Photo-acoustic (PA) excitation was combined with skeletal quantitative ultrasound (QUS) for multi-mode ultrasonic assessment of human long bones. This approach permits tailoring of the ultrasonic excitation and detection so as to efficiently detect the fundamental flexural guided wave (FFGW) through a coating of soft tissue. FFGW is a clinically relevant indicator of cortical thickness. An OPO laser with tunable optical wavelength, was used to excite a photo-acoustic source in the shaft of a porcine femur. Ultrasonic signals were detected by a piezoelectric transducer, scanning along the long axis of the bone, 20-50 mm away from the source. Five femurs were measured without and with a soft …
