A First-Principles Study of the Ag/a-Al2O3(0001) Interface

Ab initio simulations of the Ag/a-Al2O3(0001) interface have been performed for periodic slab models. We have considered Al- and O-terminated corundum surfaces, low and high substrate coverages by silver, as well as the two preferred Ag adsorption sites. The two different terminations give rise to qualitatively different results: silver physisorption on the Al-terminated substrate and chemisorption on O-terminated one. The latter could be treated as a possible model for the defective Al-terminated substrate, where the outermost aluminium ions are removed (completely or partly). Characterization of Fusion Lines Obtained with Laser Welding on Ductile Iron Plates

This paper studies the ductile iron (DI) weldability using laser welding. For performing an Yb:YAG continuous laser was used, with a maximum power of 6 kW. The parametrical window power (P) - welding speed (S) was explored by carrying out the fusion lines on ductile iron plates without preheating, to determinate areas of weldability (complete penetration, correct geometry) to allow further characterization. Dissimilar laser welding of AISI 316L stainless steel to Ti6–Al4–6V alloy via pure vanadium interlayer

Abstract Successful continuous laser joining of AISI 316L stainless steel with Ti6Al4V titanium alloy through pure vanadium interlayer has been performed. Three welding configurations were tested: one-pass welding involving all three materials and two pass and double spot welding involving creation of two melted zones separated by remaining solid vanadium. On the linear friction welding process of aluminum alloys: Experimental insights through process monitoring

Abstract Linear friction welding is a solid-state joining process for non-axisymmetric components in which joining of materials is obtained through the relative motion of two components under pressure. In the process the heat source is given by the frictional forces work decaying into heat determining a local softening of the material and eventually bonding conditions. A dedicated fixture was equipped with sensors for the in-process acquisition of variables regarding kinematics, dynamics and temperature levels. The results of an experimental campaign aimed to weld AA6082-T6 aluminum alloy parts are presented and a process window is identified for the used alloy.

Synthesis and High-Pressure Study of Corundum-Type In2O3

This work reports the high-pressure and high-temperature (HP-HT) synthesis of pure rhombohedral (corundum-type) phase of indium oxide (In2O3) from its most stable polymorph, cubic bixbyite-type In2O3, using a multianvil press. Structural and vibrational properties of corundum-type In2O3 (rh-In2O3) have been characterized by means of angle-dispersive powder X-ray diffraction and Raman scattering measurements at high pressures which have been compared to structural and lattice dynamics ab initio calculations.
