Intercalation of [M(ox)3]3− (M=Cr, Rh) complexes into NiIIFeIII-LDH

2010

Abstract Layered Double Hydroxides (LDH) containing paramagnetic NiII and FeIII ions in the hydroxide layers and chromium or rhodium oxalate complexes at the interlayer space were prepared by ion exchange from a NiFe-LDH precursor with sebacate anions between the hydroxide layers. The precursor was synthesized by coprecipitation at controlled pH in order to avoid the formation of solid phases different from LDH. Magnetic studies demonstrated that both LDHs, NiFe–Cr(ox)3 and NiFe–Rh(ox)3, exhibited a behaviour similar to the precursor. Nevertheless, the substitution of intercalated sebacate anions with oxalate complexes compresses the LDH basal spacing, increasing the intensity of dipolar in…

Comparative studies of ferric green rust and ferrihydrite coated sand: Role of synthesis routes

2008

International audience; A comparative study of ferrihydrite and ferric green rust coated sand prepared by three synthesis routes has been outlined in the present contribution. The two minerals displayed inverse properties in terms of quantity of deposited iron for all three methods investigated. For ferric green rust coating, a newly proposed synthesis route named as dry contact method was efficient for the maximum quantity of iron with almost full coverage area. Considering the similar parameters, the modified wet synthesis method designated as reactive method provides the optimum results for ferrihydrite coated sand. These coatings have been characterised by different surface analysis tec…

Potential microbial risk factors related to soil amendments and irrigation water of potato crops

2007

Aims: This study assesses the potential microbial risk factors related to the use of soil amendments and irrigation water on potato crops, cultivated in one traditional and two intensive farms during two harvest seasons. Methods and Results: The natural microbiota and potentially pathogenic micro-organisms were evaluated in the soil amendment, irrigation water, soil and produce. Uncomposted amendments and residual and creek water samples showed the highest microbial counts. The microbial load of potatoes harvested in spring was similar among the tested farms despite the diverse microbial levels of Listeria spp. and faecal coliforms in the potential risk sources. However, differences in tota…

Young ages from old garnet in the polyphase metamorphic terrane of the Limpopo Belt, South Africa

2020

Abstract The P–T–t path of high-grade metamorphic rocks is significant for understanding vertical motions and heating of the crust. In general, garnet is used to constrain P–T paths and metamorphic zircon is used to obtain t for different metamorphic stages. However, this approach may be complicated by polyphase tectonothermal events. The Central Zone of the Limpopo Belt in South Africa is a complex Precambrian metamorphic terrane that has experienced three distinct high-grade metamorphic events at 3.22 Ga (M1), 2.62 Ga (M2), and 2.02 Ga (M3), based on zircon dating. A previous investigation of a metapelite enclave in the Bulai pluton in the Central Zone showed that metamorphic zircon in th…

Time-scale of deformation and intertectonic phases revealed by P-T-D-t relationships in the orogenic middle crust of the Orlica-Śnieżnik Dome, Polish…

2014

A section of the orogenic middle crust (Orlica-nienik Dome, Polish/Czech Central Sudetes) was examined to constrain the duration and significance of deformation (D) and intertectonic (I) phases. In the studied metasedimentary synform, three deformation events produced an initial subhorizontal foliation S1 (D-1), a subsequent subvertical foliation S2 (D-2) and a late subhorizontal axial planar cleavage S3 (D-3). The synform was intruded by pre-, syn- and post-D-2 granitoid sheets. Crystallization-deformation relationships in mica schist samples document I1-2 garnet-staurolite growth, syn-D-2 staurolite breakdown to garnet-biotite-sillimanite/andalusite, I2-3 cordierite blastesis and late-D-3…

Mechanisms and parameters controlling the tricalcium aluminate reactivity in the presence of gypsum.

2007

International audience; To understand the mechanisms and the parameters controlling the reactivity of tricalcium aluminate in the presence of gypsum at an early age, a study of the hydration of the “C3A–sulphate” system by isothermal microcalorimetry, conductimetry and a monitoring of the ionic concentrations of diluted system suspensions have been carried out with various gypsum quantities. The role of C3A source and its fineness were also studied. This work shows the fast initial formation of AFm phase followed by ettringite formation during the period when the sulphate is consumed. It has been highlighted that the time necessary to consume all the gypsum varies with the type of C3A and i…

Early C3A hydration in the presence of different kinds of calcium sulfate.

2009

International audience; Hydration reactions of C3A with various amounts of calcium sulfate hemihydrate, gypsum or a mixture of two, were investigated by isothermal microcalorimetry, and a monitoring of the ionic concentrations of diluted suspensions. This study shows that sulfate type used modifies the early C3A-CaSO4 hydration products and the rate of this hydration. The fast initial AFm formation observed before ettringite precipitation in the C3A-gypsum system is avoided as soon as hemihydrate is present in the suspension. This was attributed to.higher super saturation degrees and then higher nucleation frequency with regard to the ettringite obtained in the presence of hemihydrate. More…

La capilla de la Virgen de Campanar en Valencia: tradición popular erigida en erudita retórica visual

2018

This chapel forms part of the parochial church of Campanar, which belongs to the municipality of Valencia. The Virgen de Campanar (Virgin of Campanar) is an image executed in alabaster, discovered on the subfloor of the church of this place on February 19th, 1596, by some construction workers who were undertaking some remodeling at that time. From that moment forward it began to be worshipped by the masses as a miraculous image. Among its alleged properties we find the mysterious fact that powder from its plaster had miraculous effects: it was taken dissolved in water to cure the sick or to assure a healthy birth for pregnant women, and it even calmed storms at sea if it was thrown into the…

Kelvin probe force microscopy studies of the charge effects upon adsorption of carbon nanotubes and C 60 fullerenes on hydrogen-terminated diamond

2018

Hydrogen-terminated diamond is known for its unusually high surface conductivity that is ascribed to its negative electron affinity. In the presence of acceptor molecules, electrons are expected to transfer from the surface to the acceptor, resulting in p-type surface conductivity. Here, we present Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) measurements on carbon nanotubes and C60 adsorbed onto a hydrogen-terminated diamond(001) surface. A clear reduction in the Kelvin signal is observed at the position of the carbon nanotubes and C60 molecules as compared with the bare, air-exposed surface. This result can be explained by the high positive electron affinity of carbon nanotubes and C60, resulting…

In situ quantification of the nitrogen content of olivine-hosted melt inclusions from Klyuchevskoy volcano (Kamchatka): Implications for nitrogen rec…

2021

International audience; Assessing the N content of arc magmas and their mantle source remains a challenge because the volatile element composition of melts and gases can be modified during magma ascent, storage, and eruption. Given that melt inclusions (MIs) in Mg-rich olivine represent the best proxies for primary arc melts, we applied, for the first time, an in situ high-resolution secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) method to determine the N concentration in olivine-hosted MIs from Klyuchevskoy volcano in Kamchatka. To reverse the effects of post-entrapment modification processes (i.e., exsolution of volatiles into a fluid bubble), the MIs were partially to completely homogenized at h…
