In order to examine the efficacy of whole body acupuncture additionally applied to drug treatment in depression, a single-blind placebo-controlled study with 70 inpatients administered to three different treatment groups has been carried out. All patients were pharmacologically treated with the tetracyclic antidepressant mianserin. The verum group (n = 22) received acupuncture at specific points considered to be effective in the treatment of depression. The placebo group (n = 24) was treated with acupuncture at non-specific locations and the control group (n = 24) received only pharmacological treatment. Repression of Human Papillomavirus Oncogene Expression under Hypoxia Is Mediated by PI3K/mTORC2/AKT Signaling

Oncogenic HPV types are major human carcinogens. Under hypoxia, HPV-positive cancer cells can repress the viral E6/E7 oncogenes and induce a reversible growth arrest. This response could contribute to therapy resistance, immune evasion, and tumor recurrence upon reoxygenation. Here, we uncover evidence that HPV oncogene repression is mediated by hypoxia-induced activation of canonical PI3K/mTORC2/AKT signaling. AKT-dependent downregulation of E6/E7 is only observed under hypoxia and occurs, at least in part, at the transcriptional level. AbstractThe bulk of grape juice fermentation is carried out by the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, but non-Saccharomyces yeasts can modulate many sensorial aspects of the final products in ways not well understood.
