L'équité : un fil rouge des politiques éducatives nationales
2014
This paper aims to cover some at least of the most significant dimensions that can help document, based on a sampling of countries, the issues surrounding equity and children's right to attend school, to stay in school long enough and to receive appropriate education services to ensure access to adult life with the basic knowledge and skills that will give them a chance at a decent economic and social life. Above and beyond its quantitative observations, this analysis identifies connections with various active or passive education policies found in national education systems. Additionally,to the extent that they provide a better understanding of the situation and point out stumbling blocks …
Unravelling conceptualizations of (in)equality in early childhood education and care system
2018
Early childhood education’s role in increasing equality in society has been highlighted by international organizations. However, it is unclear what is meant by the concept of equality in different situations, as the meaning fluctuates and reflects the cultural political contexts in which it is embedded. In this paper, we analyse the equality discourses of local early childhood education and care (ECEC) policymakers in Finland, drawing on different conceptualizations of equality and social justice. In doing so, we show that the way in which equality is conceptualized differs – along with the suggested remedies – depending on whether the subjects of equality are adults, children at the border…
The Investment on Capital Market: From Target Price Valuation Models to Investor Final Decision
2018
The investments on capital market are more attractive nowadays considering the short-term potential earnings that this particular market can offer but also the opportunities generated by the new entry companies. The aim of the paper is to present different valuation models of share in order to identify/calculate a target price, on one hand, and to emphasize the impact of both internal and external information on price per share, on the other hand. The target price is an important instrument that drives, alongside with industry, financial, and risk analysis, the investment decision to buy, to hold, and to sell. The key issues in determining target price are equity analysis, cash flow forecas…
The cost of equity and exchange listing evidence from the French stock market
1997
We reconsider the behaviour of prices around the period close to the listing on the Marché à Règlement Mensuel (RM). First, an event study based on a sample of 60 firms has been set up to test the existence of the exchange listing effect on the French market. Then we discuss and test the financial reasons which can justify abnormal returns around the announcement day and the day of the listing. We explore four reasons to explain the impact of the stock exchange listings: one is the informative content of the operation which induces an upward revision of the future earnings. Three other hypotheses rely on a decrease in the discount rate originated by less risky cash flows, an increase in tra…
An Exploratory Study of Financial Performance in CEE Countries
2020
Our research investigates the performance of companies from Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries in the period after the Global Financial Crisis of 2007-2009 with the aim of identifying the driving factors behind accounting- and market-based performance. We include in the analysis companies from various industries in CEE countries that are European Union members and we study their performance between 2008-2016 over the following areas of performance: liquidity, solvency and indebtedness, operational profitability, global performance (through Return on assets and Return on equity), returns available to shareholders and market-based performance (through price/book value and Tobin Q …

The Mechanics of Progress in Education: Evidence from Cross-Country Data
1998
The document examines first the relationship between a number of indicators concerning a country system of education (global and per-pupil public resources by level of schooling, education coverage, quality of educational outcomes, efficiency in student flow, external efficiency, equity by gender and in resource allocation, ..) and and its environment (overall sector context, demographic pressure fiscal, capacity, structure of employment, ..) on the one hand, its level of economic development on the other. The paper analyzes how the economic development affects the amount of resources mobilized for the sector with the finding that the main source of resources lies in the decrease of the tea…

School Equity as a Matter of Justice
2005
Enabling environments for equity, access and quality education post-2015: Lessons from South Africa and Tanzania
2016
Abstract In this paper we seek to contribute to the post-2015 education agenda by shifting the focus from considerations of what education goals and targets should be to a people-centred exploration of enabling environments, within and beyond education, for equity, access and quality. Theoretically, the paper draws on the capabilities approach. Empirically, we present data from two independent qualitative studies conducted in South Africa (n = 40) and Tanzania (n = 10) with university students who accessed higher education despite trends of low participation for their social class and/or gender. The paper highlights the importance of taking account of both instrumental and intrinsic values …
