On the structure of the set of equivalent norms on ℓ1 with the fixed point property

Abstract Let A be the set of all equivalent norms on l 1 which satisfy the FPP. We prove that A contains rays. In fact, every renorming in l 1 which verifies condition (⁎) in Theorem 2.1 is the starting point of a (closed or open) ray composed by equivalent norms on l 1 with the FPP. The standard norm ‖ ⋅ ‖ 1 or P.K. Linʼs norm defined in Lin (2008) [12] are examples of such norms. Moreover, we study some topological properties of the set A with respect to some equivalent metrics defined on the set of all norms on l 1 equivalent to ‖ ⋅ ‖ 1 .
Extensions of cocycles for hyperfinite actions and applications

Given a countable, hyperfinite, ergodic and measure-preserving equivalence relationR on a standard probability space (X, ℬ, μ) and an elementW of the normalizerN (R) ofR, we investigate the problem of extendingR-cocycles to\(\bar R\), where\(\bar R\) is the relation generated byR andW. As an application, we obtain that for a Bernoulli automorphism the smallest family of natural factors in sense of [6] consists of all factors. Given an automorphism which is embeddable in a measurable flow and a compact, metric group, we show that for a typical cocycle we cannot lift the whole flow to the centralizer of the corresponding group extension.
On the exponential growth of graded Capelli polynomials

In a free superalgebra over a field of characteristic zero we consider the graded Capelli polynomials Cap M+1[Y,X] and Cap L+1[Z,X] alternating on M+1 even variables and L+1 odd variables, respectively. Here we compute the superexponent of the variety of superalgebras determinated by Cap M+1[Y,X] and Cap L+1[Z,X]. An essential tool in our computation is the generalized-six-square theorem proved in [3].

Encoding and maintenance of information in visual working memory in an S1-S2 task with a 1500 ms retention phase were investigated by means of event-related brain potentials (ERPs). Participants were asked to decide whether two visual stimuli were physically identical (identity comparison (IC) task) or belonged to the same set or category of equivalent patterns (category comparison (CC) task). The stimuli differ with regard to two features. Equivalence closure in the two-variable guarded fragment

We consider the satisfiability and finite satisfiability problems for the extension of the two-variable guarded fragment in which an equivalence closure operator can be applied to two distinguished binary predicates. We show that the satisfiability and finite satisfiability problems for this logic are 2-ExpTime-complete. This contrasts with an earlier result that the corresponding problems for the full two-variable logic with equivalence closures of two binary predicates are 2-NExpTime-complete.

AbstractElimination of potential hypotheses is a fundamental component of many learning processes. In order to understand the nature of elimination, herein we study the following model of learning recursive functions from examples. On any target function, the learning machine has to eliminate all, save one, possible hypotheses such that the missing one correctly describes the target function. The vast majority of testing procedures presented in the literature as goodness-of-fit tests fail to accomplish what the term is promising. Actually, a significant result of such a test indicates that the true distribution underlying the data differs substantially from the assumed model, whereas the true objective is usually to establish that the model fits the data sufficiently well. Efficient Spin Torques in Antiferromagnetic CoO/Pt Quantified by Comparing Field- and Current-Induced Switching

We achieve current-induced switching in collinear insulating antiferromagnetic CoO/Pt, with fourfold in-plane magnetic anisotropy. This is measured electrically by spin Hall magnetoresistance and confirmed by the magnetic field-induced spin-flop transition of the CoO layer. By applying current pulses and magnetic fields, we quantify the efficiency of the acting current-induced torques and estimate a current-field equivalence ratio of 4×10^{-11} T A^{-1} m^{2}. The Neel vector final state (n⊥j) is in line with a thermomagnetoelastic switching mechanism for a negative magnetoelastic constant of the CoO.
