Analyzing the metrics of the perceptual space in a new multistage physiological colour vision model

2009

In this work, the metric of a new multistage colour vision model, ATTD05, is assessed and a new colour difference formula is suggested. Firstly, the uniformity of the ATTD05 colour space was compared with that of CIECAM02 for some Munsell samples, because if the model yields a uniform perceptual space, we will be able to implement a colour difference formula as a Euclidian distance between two points. Secondly, we developed a new space based on the perceptual descriptors of the model: brightness, hue, colourfulness, and saturation. After that, we calculated the free parameters of the space that better fit the measured and experimental data of two datasets (small-magnitude and large-magnitud…

A job-exposure matrix for research and surveillance of occupational health and safety in Spanish workers: MatEmESp

2013

BACKGROUND: In this study we describe a general-population job-exposure matrix (MatEmESp) for Spanish workers covering the period 1996-2005. METHODS: The Finnish job-exposure matrix (FINJEM) provided the default value estimates for occupational exposure to chemical, physical and biological agents. These estimates were adapted to Spanish working conditions by local experts. Spanish surveys were used to obtain exposure estimates for ergonomic and psychosocial risk factors. Employment and socio-demographic conditions for Spanish workers were obtained from the Spanish National Statistics Institute. RESULTS: MatEmESp provides a large amount of national and occupation-specific data on the major o…

Gender, Care, and the Normalization of Violence: Similarities between Occupational Violence and Intimate Partner Violence in Finland

2007

According to the statistics, violence against women is quite common in Finland, particularly in partner relationships and in care work. The present article looks at the similarities in the ways in which victims of occupational violence in care work and victims of intimate partner violence understand their experiences of violence. The commonalities among interpersonal relations are highlighted in order to offer new insights to the analysis of gender in research on occupational violence. Drawing on empirical data and research literature on the experiences of violence of Finnish women, this article suggests that minimization, naturalization and legitimization of the encountered violence is typ…

Violence at School: A Sample of Young Muslims and Young Valencians

2014

AbstractViolence at school is considered to be an important issue in Spain, despite the fact that the majority of secondary education students reject it. Over the last decade awareness has been raised with regard to this problem. In this study we aim to analyze the perception of school violence held by two very different groups of secondary education students. A sample of young Muslims (n=88) and young Valencians (n=88) (aged between 12 and 18) has been used, all of whom live in the city of Valencia (Spain) and study in 12 secondary educational centers in the city. We observed significant differences in the perception that young Muslims and Valencians have of this violence. Both groups reje…

Psychosocial safety climate: Conceptual distinctiveness and effect on job demands and worker psychological health

2012

Abstract Psychosocial safety climate is an emerging construct that refers to shared perceptions regarding policies, practices, and procedures for the protection of worker psychological health and safety. The purpose of the research was to: (1) demonstrate that psychosocial safety climate is a construct distinct from related climate measures (i.e., physical safety climate, team psychological safety, and perceived organizational support); and (2) test the proposition that organizational psychosocial safety climate determines work conditions (i.e., job demands) and subsequently worker psychological health. We used samples from two different cultures; an Australian sample (N = 126 workers in 16…

Concerning the calculation of the color gamut in a digital camera

2006

Several methods to determine the color gamut of any digital camera are shown. Since an input device is additive, its color triangle was obtained from their spectral sensitivities and it was compared with the theoretical sensors of Ives-Abney-Yule and MacAdam. On the other hand, the RGB digital data of the optimal or MacAdam colors were simulated to transform them into XYZ data according to the colorimetric profile of the digital camera. From this, the MacAdam limits associated to the digital camera are compared with the corresponding ones of the CIE-1931 XYZ standard observer, resulting that our color device has much smaller MacAdam loci than those of the colorimetric standard observer. Tak…

Biais de discrimination et statut social : une étude de terrain sur les relations intergroupes

2006

International audience; This study concerns discrimination bias in relations between work groups. As new developments in categorisation theory have shown, several factors modulate the effects of inter-group categorisation. Among these, status is viewed as introducing conflict between groups. We studied the impact of this factor in a work situation where status was not linked to power, choosing a firm in which relations between groups were conflict provoking. Three work groups within the same mobile phone firm were selected on the basis of their status : the ''Hard'' group, considered as high status in relation to the low status ''Administration'' group, and the ''Production'' group with an …

User Experience as a Challenge for Cognitive Psychology and Ergonomics

2011

Research on human–technology interaction has been concerned with assessing the experience of interacting with technology that is already in the process of being designed. However, the challenge nowadays is to help industry find out what technology should be designed. In this new context, cognitive psychology and ergonomics should be able to assist the innovation process through an analysis of the actions that constitute human life and the role that technology plays in these actions. In this paper, we present our approach to the definition of the role of cognitive psychologists and cognitive ergonomists in the innovation process. We aim to define new concepts and methodologies that would hel…

Conception et utilisation de documents électroniques : le point de vue de l'utilisateur

2000

This presentation aims at studying the role of para-linguistic organizers used to design technical texts on screen. We are focusing on text setting devices, especially the parenthesis, the footnotes, the more explicit text type statements (such as «Example : » before a text part) and the pop-up windows. Methods of experimental psychology were used in order to analyse written texts and also to study the influence of para-linguistic organizers on the reading process (memorisation and information retrieval). The initial idea is that it is possible to analyse a technical text into units according to the writer's intention of communication (to emphasize or minimise the relative importance of a t…
