The Histone Deacetylase Inhibitor JAHA Down-Regulates pERK and Global DNA Methylation in MDA-MB231 Breast Cancer Cells
2015
The histone deacetylase inhibitor N-1-(ferrocenyl)-N-8-hydroxyoctanediamide (JAHA) down-regulates extracellular-signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and its activated form in triple-negative MDA-MB231 breast cancer cells after 18 h and up to 30 h of treatment, and to a lesser extent AKT and phospho-AKT after 30 h and up to 48 h of treatment. Also, DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1), 3b and, to a lesser extent, 3a, downstream ERK targets, were down-regulated already at 18 h with an increase up to 48 h of exposure. Methylation-sensitive restriction arbitrarily-primed (MeSAP) polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis confirmed the ability of JAHA to induce genome-wide DNA hypomethylation at 48 h of expos…
Privacy preserving data collection for smart grid using self-organizing map
2017
Homomorphic encryption is widely researched in the smart grid area to publish and transfer electricity consumption data between electricity companies. This method makes it feasible to calculate total electricity consumption of neighborhoods without sharing any raw electricity consumption data. In the area of demand response(DR), calculating the total consumption of electricity is important in order to create DR reports which are published by third party to reduce the peak period of electricity usage such as 7 am or 6pm. Nevertheless, the possibility of data exposing or data decryption may lead to individual households private information revealing, for example, the timing of leaving home, t…
Energy-related optimal control accounts for gravitational load: comparing shoulder, elbow, and wrist rotations.

Energy-related optimal control accounts for gravitational load: comparing shoulder, elbow, and wrist rotations. J Neurophysiol 111: 4-16, 2014. First published October 16, 2013; doi: 10.1152/jn.01029.2012.-We permanently deal with gravity force. Experimental evidences revealed that moving against gravity strongly differs from moving along the gravity vector. This directional asymmetry has been attributed to an optimal planning process that optimizes gravity force effects to minimize energy. Yet, only few studies have considered the case of vertical movements in the context of optimal control. What kin…
An update to Hippocampome.org by integrating single-cell phenotypes with circuit function in vivo.
2021
Understanding brain operation demands linking basic behavioral traits to cell-type specific dynamics of different brain-wide subcircuits. This requires a system to classify the basic operational modes of neurons and circuits. Single-cell phenotyping of firing behavior during ongoing oscillations in vivo has provided a large body of evidence on entorhinal–hippocampal function, but data are dispersed and diverse. Here, we mined literature to search for information regarding the phase-timing dynamics of over 100 hippocampal/entorhinal neuron types defined in Hippocampome.org. We identified missing and unresolved pieces of knowledge (e.g., the preferred theta phase for a specific neuron type) a…
Effects of environment and genotype on dispersal differ across departure, transfer and settlement in a butterfly metapopulation
2022
Active dispersal is driven by extrinsic and intrinsic factors at the three stages of departure, transfer and settlement. Most empirical studies capture only one stage of this complex process, and knowledge of how much can be generalized from one stage to another remains unknown. Here we use genetic assignment tests to reconstruct dispersal across 5 years and 232 habitat patches of a Glanville fritillary butterfly ( Melitaea cinxia ) metapopulation. We link individual dispersal events to weather, landscape structure, size and quality of habitat patches, and individual genotype to identify the factors that influence the three stages of dispersal and post-settlement survival. We found that ne…

Estimation of hydrodynamic properties of a sandy-loam soil by two analysis methods of single-ring infiltration data
2022
Abstract Beerkan infiltration runs could provide an incomplete description of infiltration with reference to either the near steady-state or the transient stages. In particular, the process could still be in the transient stage at the end of the run or some transient infiltration data might be loss. The Wu1 method and the BEST-steady algorithm can be applied to derive soil hydrodynamic parameters even under these circumstances. Therefore, a soil dataset could be developed using two different data analysis methods. The hypothesis that the Wu1 method and BEST-steady yield similar predictions of the soil parameters when they are applied to the same infiltration curve was tested in this investi…

HIGH-ORDER ACCURATE EMBEDDED-BOUNDARY DISCONTINUOUS GALERKIN METHODS FOR INVISCID GAS DYNAMICS
2022
This work presents a computational framework for solving the equations of inviscid gas dynamics over embedded geometries based on the discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method. The novelty of the framework is the ability to achieve high-order accuracy in the regions of smooth flow and to handle the presence of solution discontinuities via suitably introduced damping terms, which allow controlling spurious oscillations that are typical of high-order methods for first-order hyperbolic PDEs. The framework employs block structured Cartesian grids where a level set function defines implicitly the considered geometry. The domain is partitioned by intersecting the grid and the level set function, such th…
