The relationship between virulence, O-serogroup, and some cell-surface features (self-pelleting [SP] and precipitation after boiling [PAB], profile of lipopolysaccharides [LPSs] and outer membrane proteins [OMPs]) was investigated in strains of the pathogenic species Aeromonas hydrophila and A. jandaei isolated from eels. The new structure of the core oligosaccharide of Plesiomonas shigelloides CNCTC 80/89 (serotype O13) lipopolysaccharide has been investigated by chemical methods, (1)H and (13)C NMR spectroscopy and matrix-assisted laser-desorption/ionization time of flight (MALDI-TOF). It was concluded that the core oligosaccharide of P. shigelloides CNCTC 80/89 is a nonasaccharide with the following structure: The position of glycine was determined by MALDI-TOF MS/MS analyses.

The essay starts by referring to a central moment in Shakespeare’s Coriolanus, when the Roman hero reacts to his banishment by banishing: “I banish you!" (3.3.123). These lines, the essay argues, provide, in a condensed form, a radical shift of perspective on the question of the boundaries of Rome: how far does Rome extend? Can Rome banish herself ? Does Rome move with Coriolanus as he moves “elsewhere” (3. 3. 135)? They also force the audience to reconsider the "nature" of the political decision that leads to the ban. This article offers a close reading of Katharine Bradley and Edith Cooper’s lyric III in Long Ago, a Sapphic volume of verse published in 1889 under the collaborative nom de plume of Michael Field. This collection articulates a dramatic inquiry into the tragedy of unrequited love in a long cycle of lyrics whose third piece most effectively encapsulates the kernel of what the Fields reconstruct as Sappho’s ambivalent eroticism.
