Lateral Habenula 5-HT2C Receptor Function Is Altered by Acute and Chronic Nicotine Exposures

2021

Serotonin (5-HT) is important in some nicotine actions in the CNS. Among all the 5-HT receptors (5-HTRs), the 5-HT2CR has emerged as a promising drug target for smoking cessation. The 5-HT2CRs within the lateral habenula (LHb) may be crucial for nicotine addiction. Here we showed that after acute nicotine tartrate (2 mg/kg, i.p.) exposure, the 5-HT2CR agonist Ro 60-0175 (5–640 µg/kg, i.v.) increased the electrical activity of 42% of the LHb recorded neurons in vivo in rats. Conversely, after chronic nicotine treatment (6 mg/kg/day, i.p., for 14 days), Ro 60-0175 was incapable of affecting the LHb neuronal discharge. Moreover, acute nicotine exposure increased the 5-HT2CR-immunoreactive (IR)…

The analysis of open-minded attitudes towards sexuality in general requires a construct based on attitudinal dimensions. Although several existing studies involve sexual attitudes, they differ substantially and standardized conceptual work is missing. Thus, the authors introduce the latent variable sexual openness to develop a construct based on self-oriented attitudes towards different sexual topics. Available survey data of female German students in a steady relationship allowed providing a first empirical test for the applicability of this construct. Five subdimensions are acknowledged central for sexual openness: sexual practices, masturbation, bisexuality, permissiveness, and pornograp…

Erot järjestykseen! : Eurovision laulukilpailu, kansallisuus ja televisiohistoria

2006

The influence of serotonin- and other genes on impulsive behavioral aggression and cognitive impulsivity in children with attention-deficit/hyperacti…

2008

Contains fulltext : 70708.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Low serotonergic (5-HT) activity correlates with increased impulsive-aggressive behavior, while the opposite association may apply to cognitive impulsiveness. Both types of impulsivity are associated with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and genes of functional significance for the 5-HT system are implicated in this disorder. Here we demonstrate the separation of aggressive and cognitive components of impulsivity from symptom ratings and test their association with 5-HT and functionally related genes using a family-based association test (FBAT-PC). METHODS: Our sample consisted of 1180 o…

Crystal structure of 12-benzylsulfanyl-2,9-dibromo-6H-dibenzo[b,g][1,8]naphthyridin-11-one

2015

The hetero-tetra-cene skeleton of the title mol-ecule, C23H14Br2N2OS, is defined by linear annulation of four six-membered rings, including two N heteroatoms. This moiety is nearly planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.055 Å), with a slight twist of 4.1 (2)° between the two halves of the aromatic system. The dihedral angle between the least-squares plane of the skeleton and the benzyl group is 24.5 (3)°; the C-S-C angle involving the benzyl-sulfanyl group is 99.2 (4)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are π-stacked in an anti-parallel fashion along [110], with a distance between the aromatic planes of 3.47 (2) Å. Inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds form chains extending parallel to [001] and bridge the a…

Antidepressive-like Behavior-Related Metabolomic Signatures of Sigma-1 Receptor Knockout Mice

2022

Sigma-1 receptor (Sig1R) has been proposed as a therapeutic target for neurological, neu-rodegenerative, and psychiatric disorders, including depression and anxiety. Identifying metabolites that are affected by Sig1R absence and cross-referencing them with specific mood-related behaviors would be helpful for the development of new therapies for Sig1R-associated disorders. Here, we examined metabolic profiles in the blood and brains of male CD-1 background Sig1R knockout (KO) mice in adulthood and old age and correlated them with the assessment of depression-and anxiety-related behaviors. The most pronounced changes in the metabolic profile were observed in the plasma of adult Sig1R KO mice.…

Autotrophic and Heterotrophic Picoplankton in Wetlands: Differences with Lake Patterns

2003

This study describes the occurrence, importance and seasonal patterns of picoplankton in two wetlands (TDNP and La Safor), and compares them to a system of fifteen interconnected lakes (Ruidera). In TDNP we performed a six-year monthly study in three sites of the wetland. Bacterial abundance increased throughout time and the autotrophic picoplankton (APP) range was wide (up to 33 x 10 6 cells/ml). The annual averaged APP contribution to total picoplankton and phytoplankton biovolumes was 0.5-22% and 0.03-6% respectively. There were large differences among sites in terms of APP absolute and relative abundance and seasonal patterns. In La Safor, the APP relative contribution to picoplankton a…

Day/night serotonin levels in the pineal gland of male BALB/c mice with melatonin deficiency

1988

Abstract. Studies from another laboratory have shown that several strains of laboratory mice have a genetic defect for melatonin synthesis. In non-deficient species, melatonin synthesis undergoes a typical, β-adrenergically regulated day/night rhythm with low melatonin levels during daytime and high levels at night, the precursor serotonin showing an inverse behaviour. This study examines whether a day/night rhythm of pineal serotonin levels exists in melatonin-deficient male BALB/c mice. Mice kept under a lighting schedule of 12 h light (lights on at 07.00 h) and 12 h dark were killed at 13.00 and 01.00 h, respectively. Serotonin amounted to 12-15 ng/pineal and did not show regular day/nig…
