La non stationnarité dans les séries saisonnières. Application au tourisme tunisien

1998

The purpose of the paper is to specify the nature of the seasonal behaviors of tourist stay demand in Tunisia by using recent tools of monthly time series analysis. The available series (tourist expenditures, prices, guest nights, reception capacities,...) are analyzed with the classical theory of demand and the theory of supply induced demand. Empirical results show that these series are generated by non stationary processes which seasonality is stochastic and deterministic. The extent of the maximum likelihood method proposed by Lee (1992) for monthly data emphasizes unit roots and cointegration relationships at some seasonal frequencies. Error correction models are derived for endogenous…

Supporting USLE-MM reliability by analyzing soil loss measurement errors

2017

Sampling the collected suspension in a storage tank is a common procedure to obtain soil loss data. A calibration curve of the tank has to be used to obtain actual concentration values from those measured by sampling. However, literature suggests that using a tank calibration curve was not a common procedure in the past. For the clay soil of the Sparacia (Italy) experimental station, this investigation aimed to establish a link between the relative performances of the USLE-M and USLE-MM models, usable to predict plot soil loss at the event temporal scale, and soil loss measurement errors. Using all available soil loss data, lower soil loss prediction errors were obtained with the USLE-MM (e…

Study and Simulation of Helicopter Gearboxes Noise

2010

International audience; Main gearbox is one of the main noise sources in helicopter cabin. In order to improve the comfort of customers and reduce the health impact, acoustic and vibration mechanisms of gearboxes have to be understood and simulated during development phases. Thus, we first present the global methodology chosen to compute main gearboxes noise in helicopter cabins. Secondly, we described the way we compute mechanical excitation sources induced from gear mesh, static transmission error and meshing stiffness. Depending on the type of gear, we compute those using either analytical specially developed code or EC codes. Thirdly, we propose a modeling to compute dynamic loads on be…

The induced smoothed LASSO

2016

We propose a new lasso-type estimator of regression coefficients for regression models. Our proposal relies on the recent idea of induced smoothing and leads to estimators with sampling distribution somewhat close to the Normal one, regardless of their true value, along with the corresponding reliable covariance matrix. As a consequence inference (e.g. p-values) may be carried out relatively easily. We present results from some simulation experiments.

Benedykt XVI o terroryzmie

2019

In Benedict XVI’s reflection on terrorist acts an unequivocally negative attitude towards them appears, regardless of the motives behind the armed actions. In this rather difficult problem for his contemporaries, he studied the premises responsible for the escalation of aggression and violence in various parts of the world, as well as their consequences for individual states and societies. The sources of acts of terror in the current reality were found in ideologies of extreme religious, as well as religious or even anti-religious backgrounds, of which ardent supporters try to impose (by force or propaganda) their dictatorship on certain social communities or office holders. Such an attitud…

Optical quality of hyperopic and myopic phakic intraocular lenses

2013

Aims: To assess and compare the optical quality of the myopic and hyperopic implantable collamer lens (ICL) from its wavefront aberrations for different powers and pupil diameters. Settings and Design: Prospective study. Material and Methods: The wavefront aberrations of two myopic (−3 and −6 diopters (D)) and two hyperopic V4b ICLs (+3 and +6D) were measured in vitro . To assess and compare the optical quality of different powers of ICLs, we analyzed the root mean square (RMS) of total higher order aberrations (HOAs), trefoil, coma, tetrafoil, secondary astigmatism, and spherical aberration at 3- and 4.5-mm pupil. In addition, the point spread functions (PSFs) of each ICL evaluated were ca…

Errors Generated by Uncertain Data

2014

In this chapter, we study effects caused by incompletely known data. In practice, the data are never known exactly, therefore the results generated by a mathematical model also have a limited accuracy. Then, the whole subject of error analysis should be treated in a different manner, and accuracy of numerical solutions should be considered within a framework of a more complicated scheme, which includes such notions as maximal and minimal distances to the solution set and its radius.
