Abstract Although below-knee compression elastic stockings (CES) are effective for the prevention of the postthrombotic syndrome (PTS), a substantial number of patients with deep venous thrombosis still develop PTS. In the present open-label, randomized clinical trial, we compared thigh-length with below-knee CES for the prevention of PTS. A total of 267 patients with the first episode of proximal deep venous thrombosis were randomized to wear either thigh-length or below-knee CES for 2 years. Objective The objective of this article is to evaluate the safety and clinical outcome of rituximab treatment in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients refractory to standard of care therapy in a real-life setting in Germany. The designation ANA describes a heterogeneous group of autoantibodies. In liver diseases, only a few nuclear target antigens have been molecularly identified and characterized. Cyclins play a central role in a cell cycle regulation, DNA transcription, and cell proliferation. : We present the case of a woman with diabetes insipidus with subsequent genital and multiorgan Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH). A monolateral and slightly infiltrated erythematous plaque of the vulva was observed. Hematoxylin and eosin and immunophenotypic studies were performed. The primary antibodies used were monoclonal antibody to S100, CD1a, CD34, HLA-DR, PCNA, CD45Ro, CD40, and langerin. The histology of the infiltrates revealed a granulomatous reaction pattern, with extensive aggregates of histiocyte proliferation. Complete congenital heart block is a serious complication of neonatal lupus erythematosus which most often occurs in children of mothers suffering from connective tissue disease. We report the occurrence of complete congenital heart block associated with autoimmune hepatitis (SLA-positive). A 32-year-old woman was treated for more than 10 years for autoimmune hepatitis (SLA-/ANA-positive) and remained in clinical remission under immunosuppressive therapy. She showed an MHC-haplotype typical for autoimmune hepatitis (A1, B8, DR3). After a normal first pregnancy, an emergency caesarean section was performed in the 32nd week of her second pregnancy because of fetal bradycardia. The child died …

SUMMARY A complete functional deficiency of Clq is described in a patient suffering from SLE. From reduced plasma C1 activity of the parents a hereditary trait was assumed. The defective C1q molecule was haemolytically inactive, did not bind to immune complexes, and was not recognized by the monocyte C1q receptor. C1 activity in the patient's serum could be restored by the addition of purified C1q.
