Francisco.J.Goerlich@uv.es Este trabajo presenta una reflexión en torno a la consistencia de las estadísticas demográficas que con más frecuencia se utilizan en la práctica, stocks de población y flujos de nacimientos, defunciones y saldos migratorios. Se ilustran numerosas inconsistencias, lo que hace dudar de la fiabilidad de algunas de estas estadísticas. Las estadísticas de población son básicas en cualquier país, ya sea moderno o en vías de desarrollo. Si no sabemos «cuantos somos», difícilmente sabremos «cuanto producimos». Este trabajo transforma la base de datos mundial del Climate Research Unit de la Universidad de East Anglia (http://www.cru.uea.ac.uk/), conocida como CRU TS 2.1, en datos regionales para España, tanto a nivel provincial como de comunidad autónoma. Dicha base de datos, cuyo formato original es de tipo grid, no se ajusta a las necesidades de los historiadores e investigadores sociales y ello por dos motivos. Immunocompromised patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome: Secondary analysis of the LUNG SAFE database

Background: The aim of this study was to describe data on epidemiology, ventilatory management, and outcome of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in immunocompromised patients. Methods: We performed a post hoc analysis on the cohort of immunocompromised patients enrolled in the Large Observational Study to Understand the Global Impact of Severe Acute Respiratory Failure (LUNG SAFE) study. The LUNG SAFE study was an international, prospective study including hypoxemic patients in 459 ICUs from 50 countries across 5 continents. The general conclusion is that dynamic-interactive graphics for statistics are thriving more than ever as they shift from the desktop to the internet. Thus, dynamic-interactive graphics are becoming increasingly important as they: 1) provide non-experts in statistics with the means to carry out analyses on their own; and 2) teach the basic concepts of statistics to students and practitioners with low to moderate mathematics skills.
