Hardware Implementation of a Configurable Motion Estimator for Adjusting the Video Coding Performances
2012
International audience; Despite the diversity of video compression standard, the motion estimation still remains a key process which is used in most of them. Moreover, the required coding performances (bit-rate, PSNR, image spatial resolution, etc.) depend obviously of the application, the environment and the network communication. The motion estimation can therefore be adapted to fit with these performances. Meanwhile, the real time encoding is required in many applications. In order to reach this goal, we propose in this paper a hardware implementation of the motion estimator which enables the integer motion search algorithms to be modified and the fractional search and variable block siz…
Quantitative study of cardiac wall motion from cine-MRI using frequency-based optical flow methods
2010
The aim of this thesis is to study parietal desynchronisation of the left ventricle from conventional cine-MRI. The first part of our work consisted in the quantification of the left ventricle wall motion of the heart directly from conventional retrospective SSFP type cine-MRI sequences used in the study of cardiac function. The developed methods for measuring displacements within the images are frequency-based optical flow methods. These techniques seem to be particularly adapted to MRI specificities. We have demonstrated their robustness in the event of Rician noise and pixel intensity variations as a function of time. These variations are often associated with the through-plane motion of…
Design, Development and Evaluation of a System for the Detection of Aerial Parts and Measurement of Growth Indices of Bell Pepper Plant Based on Ster…
2022
During the growth of plants, monitoring them brings much benefits to the producers. This monitoring includes the measurement of physical properties, counting plants leaves, detection of plants and separation of them from weeds. All these can be done different techniques, however, the techniques are favorable that are non-destructive because plant is a very sensitive creature that any manipulation can put disorder in its growth or lead to losing leaves or branches. Imaging techniques are of the best solutions for plants growth monitoring and geometric measurements. In this regard, in this project the use of stereo imaging and multispectral data was studied. Active and passive stereo imaging …
Multispectral constancy for illuminant invariant representation of multispectral images
2018
A conventional color imaging system provides high resolution spatial information and low resolution spectral data. In contrast, a multispectral imaging system is able to provide both the spectral and spatial information of a scene in high resolution. A multispectral imaging system is complex and it is not easy to use it as a hand held device for acquisition of data in uncontrolled conditions. The use of multispectral imaging for computer vision applications has started recently but is not very efficient due to these limitations. Therefore, most of the computer vision systems still rely on traditional color imaging and the potential of multispectral imaging for these applications has yet to …
Estimation of the Amount of Disposed Antibiotics
2019
The impact of the antibiotics in the environment is not well understood yet. Moreover, the total amount of antibiotics that are ending up in the environment as solid waste is not known and cannot be rigorously determined as many variables are influencing the determination of their concentration. The present article is focused on the estimation of the amount of non-prescribed antibiotics that are used in different European countries. Particular attention is paid to the class of beta-lactams, as they are responsible for a considerate share of the antimicrobial resistance. The primary purpose was the estimation of the quantity of non-prescribed antibiotics that might reach the environment as s…
Comparison of HapMap and 1000 genomes reference panels in a large-scale genome-wide association study
2017
An increasing number of genome-wide association (GWA) studies are now using the higher resolution 1000 Genomes Project reference panel (1000G) for imputation, with the expectation that 1000G imputation will lead to the discovery of additional associated loci when compared to HapMap imputation. In order to assess the improvement of 1000G over HapMap imputation in identifying associated loci, we compared the results of GWA studies of circulating fibrinogen based on the two reference panels. Using both HapMap and 1000G imputation we performed a meta-analysis of 22 studies comprising the same 91,953 individuals. We identified six additional signals using 1000G imputation, while 29 loci were ass…

Some experimental issues of AFM tip blind estimation. The effect of noise and resolution
2006
The convolution of tip shape on sample topography can introduce significant inaccuracy in an AFM image, when the tip radius is comparable to the typical dimension of the sample features to be observed. The blind estimation method allows one to obtain information on the AFM tip through an unknown characterizer sample and thus to perform the deconvolution of the tip shape from an image. When applying the blind estimation method to determine the AFM tip shape, some apparently trivial issues relating to the experimental operating parameters must be taken into account. In this paper, the effects of the operating parameters, e.g., sampling intervals (resolution) and instrumental noise, have been …
A Robust Wrap Reduction Algorithm for Fringe Projection Profilometry and Applications in Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
2017
In this paper, we present an effective algorithm to reduce the number of wraps in a 2D phase signal provided as input. The technique is based on an accurate estimate of the fundamental frequency of a 2D complex signal with the phase given by the input, and the removal of a dependent additive term from the phase map. Unlike existing methods based on the discrete Fourier transform (DFT), the frequency is computed by using noise-robust estimates that are not restricted to integer values. Then, to deal with the problem of a non-integer shift in the frequency domain, an equivalent operation is carried out on the original phase signal. This consists of the subtraction of a tilted plane whose slop…
Predictive Intelligent Fuzzy Control for Cooperative Motion of Two Nonholonomic Wheeled Cars
2007
In this paper a problem of intelligent cooperative motion control of two wheeled nonholonomic cars (target and follower) is considered. Once a target car converges to a fixed state (position and orientation), a follower car coming from different position and orientation, converges to the state above, without excessive delay between the known arrival time of the target car and the arrival time of the follower. In this sense we present a new predictive fuzzy control system. A Kalman's filter and an odometric model are used to predict the future position and orientation of the target car. The prediction above is employed to plane a circular nonholonomic reference motion for the follower car. A…
