Removing the saturation assumption in Bank-Weiser error estimator analysis in dimension three

International audience; We provide a new argument proving the reliability of the Bank-Weiser estimator for Lagrange piecewise linear finite elements in both dimension two and three. The extension to dimension three constitutes the main novelty of our study. In addition, we present a numerical comparison of the Bank-Weiser and residual estimators for a three-dimensional test case.

AbstractInvertebrate biomass is considered one of the main factors driving processes in ecosystems. It can be measured directly, primarily by weighing individuals, but more often indirect estimators are used. We developed two indirect and non-destructive approaches to estimate biomass of small invertebrates in a simple manner. Underwater visual census (UVC) is the most common approach for estimating diversity, abundance and size of reef fishes in shallow and clear waters. Abundance estimation through UVC is particularly problematic in species occurring at low densities and/or highly aggregated because of their high variability at both spatial and temporal scales. Estimating the rate of change of the composition of communities is of direct interest to address many fundamental and applied questions in ecology. One methodological problem is that it is hard to detect all the species present in a community. Distributed Adaptive Consensus Tracking Control of Uncertain High-order Nonlinear Systems under Directed Graph Condition

In this paper, we investigate the output consensus tracking problem for a class of high-order nonlinear systems subjected to unknown parameters and uncertain external disturbances. A novel backstepping based distributed adaptive control scheme is presented under the directed communication status. For the subsystems without direct access to time-varying desired trajectory, local estimators are introduced and the corresponding adaptive laws are designed in a totally distributed fashion.
