Fine structure of a mandibular stretch receptor in Thrips physapus L. (Thysanoptera, Insecta)

Only one non-ciliary proprioceptor is developed on the mandible of Thrips. It consists of two bipolar, multiterminal sense cells, the dendrites of which form a strand extended between the tentorium and the back mandibular margin. The dendritic terminals are embedded in an electron-dense, homogeneous matrix, which obviously represents the stimulus transmitting structure. The strand is stretched, if the mandible is moved forwards and upwards. In Thrips, the system of proprioceptors monitoring the mandibular movement is reduced extensively compared with other pterygote insects. This is linked up with the far-reaching reduction of the mobility of the mandible itself.
ETC-1002: A future option for lipid disorders?

ETC-1002 is a new investigational low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)-lowering agent (Esperion Therapeutics, Inc.). ETC-1002 is a dicarboxylic acid derivative with a novel mechanism of action targeting two hepatic enzymes - adenosine triphosphate-citrate lyase (ACL) and adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK), inhibiting sterol and fatty acid synthesis and promoting mitochondrial long-chain fatty acid oxidation. This agent is currently in phase II clinical research. Web Usage Mining by Neural Hybrid Prediction with Markov Chain Components

This paper presents and evaluates a two-level web usage prediction technique, consisting of a neural network in the first level and contextual component predictors in the second level. We used Markov chains of different orders as contextual predictors to anticipate the next web access based on specific web access history. The role of the neural network is to decide, based on previous behaviour, whose predictor’s output to use. The predicted web resources are then prefetched into the cache of the browser.
