DYSPHORIC-LIKE BEHAVIOUR DURING ETHANOL WITHDRAWAL IN FEMALE RATS. EFFECT OF CONTINUOUS VS INTERMITTENT ACCESS PARADIGM.

2014

Women show higher vulnerability for neuroadaptation to alcohol, which may contribute to negative emotional state during withdrawal (Sharrett-Field et al., 2013; Koob and Le Moal, 1997). This study aimed at exploring the effects of different patterns of voluntary ethanol consumption on female rat"s affective behaviour during withdrawal. Female rats underwent 12-week-, 2-bottle choice- continuous or intermittent (3 days/week ) access to 20% ethanol and were respectively named CARs and IARs. They were tested for alcohol preference; dysphoric-like state during withdrawal (24-48h); depressive- and anhedonic-like behaviours explored by forced swim- and saccharin preference tests; anxiety-like beh…

Hidden biochemical action of Ethanol on colon carcinoma cell models

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most widespread cancers in the world. Numerous risk factors have been correlated with the development of CRC, including genetic factors, inflammation, intestinal microflora composition, as well as lifestyle factors, such as smoking, high consumption of red meats and alcohol intake. Epidemiological studies support the conclusion that chronic and heavy alcohol consumption increases the risk to develop CRC as well as favors the progression of this form of cancer. However, the biochemical mechanisms responsible for these events have not yet been fully clarified. The aim of my doctoral project was to study the effects of ethanol in human colorectal carcinoma…

The Acceptable Alternative Vehicle Fuel Price

2019

Historically, petroleum fuels have been the dominant fuel used for land transport. However, the growing need for sustainable national economics has urged us to incorporate more economical and ecological alternative vehicle fuels. The advantages and disadvantages of them complicate the decision-making process and compel us to develop adequate mathematical methods. Alternative fuel (compressed natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, and ethanol fuel mixtures), the standard prices and their ratios were investigated. A mathematical model to determine a critical ratio between alternative and conventional fuel prices had already been developed. The results of this were investigated. The results sho…

Crystal structure of dimethylammonium hydrogen oxalate hemi(oxalic acid)

2015

The title salt consists of a dimethylammonium cation (Me2NH2 +), an hydrogenoxalate anion (HC2O4 −), and half a molecule of oxalic acid (H2C2O4) situated about an inversion center. They are linked together through intermolecular hydrogen bonds, forming a two-dimensional bilayer-like self-assembly.

Crystal structure and magnetic study of the complex salt [RuCp(PTA)2–μ-CN-1κC:2κN–RuCp(PTA)2][Re(NO)Br4(EtOH)0.5(MeOH)0.5]

2021

A new RuII–ReII complex salt, μ-cyanido-κ2 C:N-bis[(η5-cyclopentadienyl)bis(3,5,7-triazaphosphaadamantane-κP)ruthenium(II)] tetrabromido(ethanol/methanol-κO)nitrosylrhenate(II), [Ru(CN)(C5H5)2(C6H12N3P)4][ReBr4(NO)(CH4O)0.5(C2H6O)0.5] or [RuCp(PTA)2–μ-CN–1κC:2κ2 N-RuCp(PTA)2][Re(NO)Br4(EtOH)0.5(MeOH)0.5] (PTA = 3,5,7-triazaphosphaadamantane) was obtained and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis and infrared spectroscopy. The title salt was obtained by liquid–liquid diffusion of methanol/DMSO solutions of (NBu4)[Re(NO)Br4(EtOH)] and [(PTA)2CpRu–μ-CN–1κC:2κ2 N-RuCp(PTA)2](CF3SO3). Ethanol impairs extracellular zinc intake in cultured astrocytes

2009

Zinc (Zn) deficiency is present in many physiological and health problems. Among circumstances involved in Zn deficiency, ethanol consumption appears as a prominent cause. In the CNS substantial amounts of Zn appear accumulated in synaptic vesicles of a particular class of neurons: the Zn enriched neurons very abundant in the telencephalon and cerebral cortex. This is the so called synaptic Zn which is simultaneously released with the neurotransmitter thus exerting a neuromodulator role during synaptic transmission. Neighbour astrocytic processes have to capture the excess of both extracellular Zn and neurotransmitter in order to maintain efficient synaptic transmission between neurons. In …

Methylophilaceae and Hyphomicrobium as target taxonomic groups in monitoring the function of methanol-fed denitrification biofilters in municipal was…

2017

Abstract Molecular monitoring of bacterial communities can explain and predict the stability of bioprocesses in varying physicochemical conditions. To study methanol-fed denitrification biofilters of municipal wastewater treatment plants, bacterial communities of two full-scale biofilters were compared through fingerprinting and sequencing of the 16S rRNA genes. Additionally, 16S rRNA gene fingerprinting was used for 10-week temporal monitoring of the bacterial community in one of the biofilters. Combining the data with previous study results, the family Methylophilaceae and genus Hyphomicrobium were determined as suitable target groups for monitoring. An increase in the relative abundance …
