Records and Distribution Corrections on Palaearctic Tenebrionoidea (Coleoptera)

Records and faunistic information are provided for 96 Palaearctic species of tenebrionoid beetles of the families Aderidae, Anthicidae, Melandryidae, Mordellidae, Mycetophagidae, Oedemeridae, Prostomidae, Pyrochroidae, Tenebrionidae and Tetratomidae. The first records of Agnathus decoratus Germar, 1818, Cynaeus angustus (Le Conte, 1851), Mordella huetheri Ermisch, 1956 and Prostomis mandibularis (Fabricius, 1801) for the whole Baltic region of Europe are presented.

Molds of the genus Alternaria have been reported as contaminants of a variety of food and feed. Alternaria toxins such as alternariol (AOH) and its naturally occurring monomethyl ether (AME) produce cytotoxicity and oxidative stress in cell cultures. On the other hand, it has been proved that natural polyphenols have antioxidant effect. Quercetin (Quer) is a polyphenol present in berries and other commodities which exhibits these effects. In this study, we report the development of a dual extraction protocol for RNA and lipids, including phospholipids, endocannabinoids, and arachidonic acid, at high spatial resolution, e.g., brain punches obtained from whole frozen brains corresponding to four brain subregions: dorsal hippocampus, ventral hippocampus, basolateral amygdala, and hypothalamus. AbstractTellurite (TeO32−) is a hazardous and toxic oxyanion for living organisms. However, several microorganisms can bioconvert TeO32− into the less toxic form of elemental tellurium (Te0). Here, Rhodococcus aetherivorans BCP1 resting (non-growing) cells showed the proficiency to produce tellurium-based nanoparticles (NPs) and nanorods (NRs) through the bioconversion of TeO32−, depending on the oxyanion initial concentration and time of cellular incubation. Artemisia annua L. is used throughout Asia and Africa as tea and press juice to treat malaria and related symptomes (fever, chills). Its active ingredient, artemisinin (ARS), has been developed as antimalarial drug and is used worldwide. Interestingly, the bioactivity is not restricted to malaria treatment. We and others found that ARS-type drugs also reveal anticancer in vitro and in vivo. In this review, we give a systematic overview of the literature published over the past two decades until the end of 2016. Abstract Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are flame retardants, characterized by elevated stability in the marine environment, where are accumulated by organisms, inducing a wide panel of negative effects. In this study, some biochemical patterns related to toxicity, biotransformation and oxidative stress, were studied in the marine model system, Mytilus galloprovincialis, exposed to BDE-47. Mussels were fed with microalgae, previously treated with increasing concentrations of PBDEs (maximum dose 100 ng L-1 of BDE-47 per day). Many foreign compounds are transformed into reactive metabolites, which may produce genotoxic effects by chemically altering critical biomolecules. Reactive metabolites are under the control of activating, inactivating and precursor sequestering enzymes. Such enzymes are under the long-term control of induction and repression, as well as the short-term control of post-translational modification and low molecular weight activators or inhibitors.
