The Association Between Ethical Leadership and Employee Outcomes - the Malaysian Case

2009

The topic of ethical leadership has received significant attention in recent years due to the plethora of corporate scandals both in the US and other countries. The shocking financial irregularities that have been uncovered in the executive suites of former Wall Street darlings like Tyco International, WorldCom, Adelphia, HealthSouth, and Enron and more recently Transmile in the case of Malaysia, bring to fore the need for ethical leadership more than ever before. The common thread underlying these corporate scandals is the failure of corporate leadership to demonstrate ethical leadership and its consequent negative impact on employee outcomes. However, despite its theoretical and practical…

Love Wins : A Love Lens Approach to Cultivation of Organization-Stakeholder Relationships

2020

This chapter adds to emerging research exploring the construct of joy by drawing attention to the value of more loving stakeholder relationships. Relationship management research has focussed attention on the antecedents, outcomes and quality of an organization’s relationships with various publics and stakeholders and has examined strategies that can nurture these relationships. However, not much of this research has addressed intimacy and passion in these relationships. Accordingly, this chapter draws on the theory of brand love developed in relationship marketing research and the theory of love from psychological research to build a theoretical framework of organization–stakeholder love (…

W stronę socjologicznego ujęcia etyki badań naukowych

2016

The Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) is an assets allocation, whose aim is to maximize not only the portfolio expected return but the benefits for a consumer who as a whole operates according to the ethical principles. Embodied Responsive Ethical Practice The Contribution of Merleau-Ponty for a Corporeal Ethics in Organizations

2015

Following a phenomenological understanding of the body and embodiment, this paper explores corporeal ethics as a practice in organisations. With the phenomenology of Merleau-Ponty, bodily dimensions and enfleshed intercorporeality are seen as media for ethically enacted and morally responsive, thus responsible forms of practicing and relationships. Then the article discusses specific forms of responsive and caring practices as well as the ethical relevance of bodies at work in organisations. Finally, practical, political, and theoretical implications are offered and perspectives for further investigating and incorporating practicing of ethics in organisations are outlined. peerReviewed

Creating Managerial Ethical Profiles: An Exploratory Cluster Analysis

2008

This study profiles managers according to the ethical criteria they bring to their managerial decision making. Profiling was based on exploratory cluster analysis of responses of academics & students and small business managers to a multidimensional questionnaire. The data were collected through a self-reporting survey (n=82) administrated to the two cohorts. An agglomerative hierarchical cluster analysis was then performed to the two groups separately on the 8 ethical subscales from the Managerial Ethical Profile (MEP). Between-groups linkage method and squared binary Euclidean distance measures were used to cluster groups in the given data sets. Five clusters were found as an optimal numb…

Impressions of Questionable Marketing Practices in Indonesia: The Influence of Gender and Social Desirability Response Bias

2008

Our research examines the ethical sensitivity of 90 Indonesian business students (61 male and 29 female) toward questionable marketing practices using self-reported data; however, unlike most ethics research, we control for social desirability responsibility bias. In our research, we found that, when social desirability response bias was not considered, there was a significant gender difference. However, we also found that female students scored significantly higher on our measure of social desirability response bias than did their male counterparts. When we considered both gender and social desirability response bias in our models, the differences in ethical sensitivity between genders wer…

Stakeholder salience for small businesses : a social proximity perspective

2017

This paper advances stakeholder salience theory from the viewpoint of small businesses. It is argued that the stakeholder salience process for small businesses is influenced by their local embeddedness, captured by the idea of social proximity, and characterised by multiple relationships that the owner-manager and stakeholders share beyond the business context. It is further stated that the ethics of care is a valuable ethical lens through which to understand social proximity in small businesses. The contribution of the study conceptualises how the perceived social proximity between local stakeholders and small business owner-managers influences managerial considerations of the legitimacy, …
