The paper aims to offer an account of some representative opinions of ancient Greeks about the role of the space, conceived in its geographical/environmental value, in which a certain population lives, as well as of the language spoken by a population, in order to build historically the concept of Greek nation (to Hellenikón). The different positions expressed on these matters by Herodotus, Thucydides, Strabon and Pausanias are discussed, and the examination mostly concernes the ethnic and historical-linguistic aspects of the representation of the Dorians and Ionians.

Tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvittää, miten kansallisuus ja ei-amerikkalaiset hahmot on esitetty Carl Barksin ankkatarinoissa Lost in the Andes ja Voodoo Hoodoo. Tutkielman perustana toimivat Scott McCloudin ja Juha Herkmanin sarjakuvia käsittelevät teokset sekä kansallisten stereotypioiden tutkimus. Sarjakuvat analysoitiin hyödyntäen McCloudin ja Herkmanin määritelmiä sarjakuvien eri elementeistä. Tutkimuksessa kävi ilmi, että paikalliset, ei-yhdysvaltalaiset hahmot on kuvattu yksipuolisesti, miesvaltaisesti ja muutamaa piirrettä korostaen kunkin kansallisuuden kohdalla. The article draws attention to the issues of symbolic functioning of the city which was formed of two different entities as a result of political and economic decisions. In the 20th century, the history of a traditional city got entwined with a modernistic industrial city which was taking shape. As a result, ideologies and politics impacted on the newly-established conurbation.
