Insertion of a single-molecule magnet inside a ferromagnetic lattice based on a 3D bimetallic oxalate network: Towards molecular analogues of permane…

2014

The insertion of the single-molecule magnet (SMM) [MnIII(salen) (H2O)]2 2+ (salen2-=N,N-ethylenebis- (salicylideneiminate)) into a ferromagnetic bimetallic oxalate network affords the hybrid compound [MnIII(salen)(H2O)] 2[MnIICrIII(ox)3] 2×(CH3OH)×(CH3CN)2 (1). This cationic Mn2 cluster templates the growth of crystals formed by an unusual achiral 3D oxalate network. The magnetic properties of this hybrid magnet are compared with those of the analogous compounds [Mn III(salen)(H2O)]2[ZnIICr III(ox)3]2×(CH3OH) ×(CH3CN)2 (2) and [InIII(sal 2-trien)][MnIICrIII(ox)3] ×(H2O)0.25×(CH3OH) 0.25×(CH3CN)0.25 (3), which are used as reference compounds. In 2 it has been shown that the magnetic isolatio…

Thermodynamic studies of actinide complexes. 1. A reappraisal of the solution equilibria between plutonium(IV) and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (E…

2007

Abstract A detailed reevaluation of the complexation equilibria of plutonium(IV) with the polyaminocarboxylic sequestering agent EDTA4− has been performed in 1 M (H,K)NO3 media at 298 K by means of visible absorption spectrophotometry and glass-electrode potentiometry at millimolar concentration levels. The high binding affinity even under strongly acidic conditions supports the exclusive formation of the neutral Pu(EDTA) complex over the range 0.01 ≤ [H+] ≤ 0.9 M with an apparent formation constant of log β110 = 25.8(1) at 0.9 M HNO3. Extrapolation to zero ionic strength using the SIT approach provides the first ever-reported NEA–TDB compliant estimate of β 110 0 ( log β 110 0 = 32.2 ( 3 )…

Heats and Entropies of Reaction of Transition Metal Ions with Ethylenediamine

1960

THE heats of formation of complexes between ligands and metal ions are very important to further the ligand field-theory and check its implications. Until now, only the heats of hydration of the first transition group ions have been used for this purpose1 as the thermochemical data on the complexes formed by ligands other than water are very incomplete. The transition metal complexes of ethylenediamine, which have a very nearly octahedral configuration, could also be fruitfully studied in terms of ligand field-theory. Unfortunately only the thermal data on nickel (II), copper (II) and zinc (II) complexes are known2, and so the formation constants have been used instead of the values of enth…

Galactosylated polymeric carriers for liver targeting of sorafenib

2014

In this paper, we describe the preparation of liver-targeted polymeric micelles potentially able to carry sorafenib to hepatocytes for treatment of hepatocarcinoma (HCC), exploiting the presence of carbohydrate receptors, ASGPR. These micelles were prepared starting from a galactosylated polylactide-polyaminoacid conjugate. This latter was obtained by chemical reaction of α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl) (2-aminoethylcarbamate)-d,l-aspartamide (PHEA-EDA) with polylactic acid (PLA), and subsequent reaction with lactose, leading to PHEA-EDA-PLA-GAL copolymer. Liver-targeted sorafenib-loaded micelles were obtained in aqueous media at low PHEA-EDA-PLA-GAL copolymer concentration value with nanometer …

Solid- and solution-state studies of the novel mu-dicyanamide-bridged dinuclear spin-crossover system {[(Fe(bztpen)]2[mu-N(CN)2]}(PF6)3 x n H2O.

2005

The mononuclear diamagnetic compound {Fe(bztpen)[N(CN)2]} (PF6)CH3OH (1) (bztpen = N-benzyl-N,N′,N′- tris(2-pyridylmethyl)ethylenediamine) has been synthesized and its crystal structure studied. Complex 1 can be considered to be the formal pre-cursor of two new dinuclear, dicyanamide-bridged iron(II) complexes with the generic formula {[(Fe(bztpen)]2[μN(CN)2]}(PF6) 3·nH2O (n = 1 (2) or 0 (3)), which have been characterized in the solid state and in solution. In all three complexes, the iron atoms have a distorted [FeN6] octahedral coordination defined by a bztpen ligand and a terminal (1) or a bridging dicyanamide ligand (2 and 3). In the solid state, 2 and 3 can be considered to be molecu …

A methacrylic hyaluronic acid derivative for potential application in oral treatment of celiac disease.

2017

Objective: Aim of this work was the synthesis of a methacrylic hyaluronic acid (HA) derivative and the production, via photocrosslinking, of related hydrogels loaded with an endopeptidase intended for a potential oral treatment of celiac disease. Methods: The methacrylic derivative of HA was prepared through a one-pot procedure involving the reaction with ethylenediamine (EDA) and methacrylic anhydride (MA). The obtained derivative, named HA-EDA-MA, was used to prepare photocrosslinked hydrogels loaded with a prolyl endopeptidase derived from Flavobacterium meningosepticum (PEP FM) able to detoxify gliadin. Obtained hydrogels were recovered as gels or freeze-dried powders. Results: Hydrogel…

Gamma irradiation of graphene quantum dots with ethylenediamine: Antioxidant for ion sensing

2020

Due to the low consumption of chemicals, the absence of toxic residual side products, the procedure simplicity and time-saving aspects, gamma irradiation offers advantages over the classical chemical protocols. We successfully employed gamma irradiation in order to introduce N-atoms in Graphene Quantum Dots (GQDs). By irradiating GQDs water dispersions in the presence of isopropyl alcohol and ethylenediamine, at doses of 25, 50 and 200 kGy, we attached amino groups onto GQDs in a single synthetic step. At the same time, a chemical reduction is achieved, too. Selected conditions induced incorporation of N-atoms within GDQs atomic lattice (around 3 at%), at all applied doses. Additionally, th…

Amphiphilic Copolymers Based on Poly[(hydroxyethyl)-d,l-aspartamide]: A Suitable Functional Coating for Biocompatible Gold Nanostars

2013

Novel amphiphilic copolymers have been synthesized based on a biocompatible poly(hydroxyethylaspartamide) (PHEA) backbone, bearing both anchoring groups for gold nanoparticles, such as thiols and disulfide, and conjugable moieties, such as amino groups, the latter as points suitable for appending further functional agents. The strategy was to functionalize α,β-poly[(N-2- hydroxyethyl)-d,l-aspartamide] (PHEA) with PEG2000-NH2 and with ethylenediamine (EDA) obtaining a partially pegylated copolymer with a large number of pendant primary amino groups. A fraction of the latter was conjugated with molecules bearing terminal thiol moieties such as 12-mercaptododecanoic acid (MDA) and disulfide gr…

Size- and coating-dependent uptake of polymer-coated gold nanoparticles in primary human dermal microvascular endothelial cells.

2012

A library-orientated approach is used to gain understanding of the interactions of well-defined nanoparticles with primary human endothelial cells, which are a key component of the vasculature. Fifteen sequentially modified gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) based on three different core sizes (18, 35, 65 nm) and five polymeric coatings were prepared. The synthetic methodology ensured homogeneity across each series of particles to allow sequential investigation of the chemical features on cellular interactions. The toxicity of these nanoparticles, their uptake behavior in primary human dermal microvascular endothelial cells (HDMECs), and quantification of uptake were all investigated. The results o…

New hyaluronic acid based brush copolymers synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization.

2013

Abstract In this work, an efficient method for the synthesis of hyaluronic acid based brush copolymers using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) has been reported. At first, two different hyaluronic acid (HA) based macroinitiators have been prepared and then they have been used for the polymerization via ATRP of hydrophilic or hydrophobic molecules carrying vinyl portions. In particular, by linking 2-bromo-2-methylpropionic acid (BMP) to the primary hydroxyl groups of tetrabutyl ammonium salt of HA (HA–TBA) or to amino groups of the ethylenediamino derivative of HA–TBA (HA–TBA–EDA), two macroinitiators (HA–TBA–BMP and HA–TBA–EDA–BMP) have been obtained. Then they have been used for …
