Diel feeding habits of juveniles of Mullus surmuletus (Linneo, 1758) in the lagoon of the Stagnone di Marsala (Western Sicily, Italy)
1999
Diet composition, feeding rhythm, gastric evacuation rate and daily ration were investigated in juvenile Mulhis surmuletus (Linneo, 1758). Fish were collected in the lagoon of the Stagnone di Marsala in western Sicily, in July 1995, during a 24 h sampling period. Copepoda, Polychaeta, Amphipoda and Tanaidacea were shown to be the most frequent prey items. The feeding index values showed two different daily feeding times. A unimodal trend in the daily rhythm of food consumption was derived, with a peak in feeding between 1200 and 2000 h. Gastric evacuation in juvenile M. surmuletus is best described by an exponential model, with a gastric evacuation rate R = 0.66 g h-1 (r = 0.88) (T = 24.45 …
Interventistica eco-guidata per l’articolazione d’anca
2013
409 Using rai-hc assessment instrument to classify home care clients in Finland based on fire emergency evacuation capacity
2016
Background When an uncontrollable fire is detected in a building there may be a 2–3 minutes window for the occupants to move to safety. Poor physical function and cognition may become critical factors in an evacuation situation. In this study a novel functional scale measuring emergency evacuation capacity of home care clients is presented. Methods A fire security expert visited about 250 home care clients assessing their evacuation capacities. For the evacuation capacity three categories were used: 1) is able to evacuate; 2) may be able; 3) unable to evacuate. This data was linked to comprehensive assessments of clients functional and health status performed by home care nurses using the i…
A life time in exile : Finnish war children in Sweden after the war : an interview study with a psychological and psychodynamic approach
2018
This study is based upon in-depth interviews with ten Finnish war children who were evacuated to Sweden during the Second World War (1939 -1944) and who did not return permanently to Finland after the war. This interpretative and qualitative interview study of war children seems to be the only one of its kind. The interviews were carried out in 2007 in Stockholm. At the time of the evacuation nine of the children were between two and five years of age and one was seven years old. At the time of the interviews they were approaching their seventieth birthday. The interviewees were asked to tell about their life. The method for this study was an application of Grounded Theory and Adult Attachm…
The impact of sacral root anatomy on selective electrical stimulation for bladder evacuation.
1998
Although different structures have been studied with electrostimulation to elicit bladder evacuation, only the sacral root remains feasible for clinical application at present. However, the resultant concomitant contractions of the bladder and sphincteric muscles have been the principal problem over the last few decades. Attempts to identify fibers within the sacral ventral root that innervate the detrusor predominantly have been made by microsurgery alone or in combination with advanced electrical blocking techniques. This article evaluates our past and present efforts to achieve voiding in light of the mixed nature of sacral root anatomy.
Traces of the past: an interview study with Finnish war children who did not return to Finland after the Second World War
2017
ABSTRACTThis paper is an in-depth qualitative study based on interviews with 10 Finnish children who were evacuated to Sweden during Second World War and who did not return to Finland after the war. The interviewees were asked to tell about their lives. Nine of them were between 2 and 5 years and one was 7 years old at the time of evacuation. The aim was to study how their childhood experiences were reflected in adult memories, how they remembered or did not remember. This paper focuses on the consequences of not knowing about one’s early life and also on whether it is possible to observe signs of the Finnish mother. She did not appear explicitly but could be sensed in the tendency of the i…
