The Italian Multiple Sclerosis Database Network (MSDN): The risk of worsening according to IFNβ exposure in multiple sclerosis

We evaluated the risk of worsening according to the length of exposure to interferon beta (IFNβ)ina large cohort of 2090 multiple sclerosis patients collected by the Italian MS Database Network. Overall 44-140 patient-visits with a follow-up of 22-143 patient-years were evaluated. Forty-one per cent of patients were exposed to IFNβ for up to 2 years, 39% for 2- 4 years and 20% for more than 4 years. A Cox regression model was used to analyse two clinical outcomes: disability progression and worsening of relapse rate. We sought to evaluate the long-term quality of life and functional outcome of patients who underwent digital replantation after amputation. A retrospective single-center study was conducted of patients treated between January 2010 to May 2016. Twenty-eight patients who underwent successful replantation after single or multiple digital amputation were reviewed in person after at least 2years' follow-up (mean 4.6years). Purpose. The purpose of the study was to investigate if changes in psychological variables are related to the outcome in pain and disability in patients with chronic anterior knee pain. Methods. A longitudinal observational study on 47 patients with chronic anterior knee pain was performed in a secondary healthcare setting. Sonography versus peritoneal lavage in blunt abdominal trauma.

The reliability of sonography and peritoneal lavage in assessing the need for immediate surgical intervention in blunt abdominal trauma was examined in a prospective study (n = 71). Statistical analysis revealed a sensitivity of 100% for peritoneal lavage compared to 84% for sonography; the accuracy was 99% versus 86%, the predictive value 97% vs. 89%. The statistical difference was significant (p less than 0.05). The results demonstrate that sonography cannot replace peritoneal lavage in the diagnosis of blunt abdominal trauma. We evaluated our experience with buccal mucosa in urethral reconstruction for complex hypospadias repair in a total of 62 children operated on at our institution since 1990 at a mean follow-up of 23 months. After the graft had been taken from the lower lip, with possible extension to the inner cheek, complete thinning of the graft was performed. The graft was then sutured in an onlay fashion to the urethral plate, and suprapubic urinary diversion was carried out for 3 weeks. Ileocecal valve reconstruction during continent urinary diversion.

During construction of an ileocecal reservoir, such as the Mainz or Indiana pouch, the ileocecal valve is lost. Subsequently, the intestinal transit time is shortened and malabsorption as well as diarrhea may result. Patients having undergone previous bowel resection as well as children with myelomeningocele who often already have frequent defecations will be heavily affected by the loss of the ileocecal valve.
