General Diagnosis and Medical Evaluation
2019
Current literature does not contribute to a high level of evidence regarding possible indications for immediate loading. A great variety of exclusion criteria for immediate loading of dental implants are used in different studies. However, the reported criteria are similar to those chosen for conventional loading of dental implants. Despite its several clinical advantages, the immediate loading protocol should be performed respecting a rigorous preliminary diagnostic algorithm. Primary indication for immediate implant loading is certainly patients’ desire to reduce the overall treatment time. Additionally, several psychological factors, related to the preservation of functional and esthetic…
Relationship between students' perception of a rubric for oral presentations and their academic characteristics
2022
The use of rubrics in the evaluation of oral presentations has been associated with several benefits for students. However, it is unknown whether students with better academic marks and greater self-regulation find the use of rubrics more useful or not. This paper aims to assess the relationship between how students perceive the use of a rubric and their academic characteristics, and to analyze the congruence between the professor’s and students’ evaluations when using the rubric. Eighty-five students studying for a Degree in Sport Sciences participated in this study. A rubric for oral presentations was used to assess the students’ performance. The students then filled out…
What a Difference a Case Makes: Teaching Economic Evaluation of Public Policies to Non-Economists
2014
The adaptation process to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) provides an opportunity for incorporating new methodologies and making students play the main role in the learning process. In this context, a group of teachers from the University of Barcelona began in the 2012-13 academic year a new pedagogical experience, which consisted in the introduction of case-study methodology in the subject Economic Evaluation of Public Policies, taught at the Political and Administration Sciences undergraduate programme. The aims of the experience were the following: Firstly, making more attractive the subject to non-economists; secondly, developing skills such as collaborative work and critical …
Evaluación del diseño del programa AedEM de Educación Emocional para Educación Secundaria
2016
The systematic interventions in the field of emotional education are a resource increasingly used to facilitate among adolescents acquisition of emotional skills. The review in this work of such interventions shows that most of them take the form of expert programs without integrating their activities within the school curriculum. This paper focuses on the evaluation design of the Programme of Emotional Education (hereinafter AEdEm), which is a compulsory subject in the 1st and 2nd academic years of E.S.O (Compulsory Secondary Education) at a secondary school in the province of Cádiz. This program developed by Sánchez Román y Sánchez Calleja (2015) aims to develop emotional competences foll…
Finnish Case of Basic Education for All – With Quality Learning Outcomes
2014
This article views behind the success of the Finnish basic education in the PISA assessments in the years 2000, 2003, 2006 and 2009. Success is here defined not only as excellent learning outcomes in reading literacy, mathematics and science, but also as a high level of educational equity and equality. The achieved outcomes are attributable to several factors, of which this article addresses especially the basic education reform of 1972-1977 and the university based teacher education leading to a master’s degree. Additional attention is paid to the autonomy of the municipalities (counties), schools and teachers in building and implementing the curricula, on the respect for learning and teac…
Prioritization of students’ needs for education service design and development by embedding AHP and fuzzy set theory: A case study
2015
Student satisfaction represents a strategic factor for many universities towards increasing competition concerning students recruitment. Thus, nowadays many universities take into account typical customer-oriented industry’s approaches for the education service design and development. In such a condition, prioritization of students’ needs represents a crucial step to appropriately adopt these approaches. This paper proposes an effective way to evaluate importance of students’ needs based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, in which linguistic variables are parameterized by means of triangular fuzzy numbers, to deal with uncertainty, subjectivity and vagueness. Finally, a case st…

: Policies of decentralization in education : international diversity, theoretical reasoning, empirical evidence
2004
Over the past two decades, decentralization of governments has become common throughout the world. The education sector is no exception. Countries with diverse economic, spatial, demographic and educational features have implemented significant decentralization reforms. The traditional typology of educational functions, characterized by contrasts between central states federal states has grown enriched with families of newly decentralized educational systems. However, despite the polical popularity of decentralization reforms, neither economic and political theories nor empirical evaluations give consistent grounds for this worldwide trend. Despite an impressive amount of literature, mainly…
