Do dynamic effects play a significant role in enzymatic catalysis? A theoretical analysis of formate dehydrogenase.

2010

A theoretical study of the protein dynamic effects on the hydride transfer between the formate anion and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD + ), catalyzed by formate dehydrogenase (FDH), is presented in this paper. The analysis of free downhill molecular dynamic trajectories, performed in the enzyme and compared with the reaction in aqueous solution, has allowed the study of the dynamic coupling between the reacting fragments and the protein or the solvent water molecules, as well as an estimation of the dynamic effect contribution to the catalytic effect from calculation of the transmission coefficient in the enzyme and in solution. The obtained transmission coefficients for the enzyme…

Recent Probes of Standard and Non-standard Neutrino Physics With Nuclei

2019

We review standard and non-standard neutrino physics probes that are based on nuclear measurements. We pay special attention on the discussion of prospects to extract new physics at prominent rare event measurements looking for neutrino-nucleus scattering, such as the coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CE$\nu$NS) that may involve lepton flavor violation (LFV) in neutral-currents (NC). For the latter processes several appreciably sensitive experiments are currently pursued or have been planed to operate in the near future, like the COHERENT, CONUS, CONNIE, MINER, TEXONO, RED100, vGEN, Ricochet, NUCLEUS etc. We provide a thorough discussion on phenomenological and theoretical studi…

The Role of Medical Humanities in Prevention and Treatment of Patients with Chronic Diseases

2023

In the field of prevention and treatment of patients with chronic diseases, biomedicine often shows its inability to be effective on a clinical level, despite its extraordinary scientifical growth. Through the analysis of a clinical vignette, the paper illustrates the skills and the solutions that could be applied to obtain awareness and compliance in chronic patients, using the expertise we can obtain from Medical Humanities.

Understanding University Library Users' Mistreatment of Books

2009

This paper analyses university library users' attitudes towards book vandalism in order to develop a basis for intervention. Using a customer oriented approach data was collected from users who attended an academic library exhibition on vandalized books at a University campus. Respondants were asked both for their reactions to the vandalism as well as to suggest measures to solve this problem. Punishment and surveillance were most frequently mentioned as preventative measures although users also recognized the utility of the exhibition in increasing awareness of book mutilation. Further implications of social marketing for libraries are also discussed.

L'evento e la storia. Il lessico della forza nei "Trattati inediti"

2020

FIRST MEASUREMENT OF THE STRANGE QUARK ASYMMETRY AT THE Z(0) PEAK

1995

A measurement of the strange quark forward-backward asymmetry at the Z0 peak was performed using 718,000 multihadronic Z0 decays collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP in 1992. The s-quark was tagged by the presence of high momentum charged kaons identified by the Ring Imaging Cherenkov detector and by Λ0;s decaying into pπ-. The s-quark purity obtained was estimated for the two hadrons to be 43%. The average s-quark asymmetry was found to be 0.131±0.035 (stat.) ±0.013 (syst.). The forward-backward asymmetry was measured for unresolved d-and s-quarks, tagged by the detection of a high energy neutron or neutral kaon in the Hadron Calorimeter. The combined d-and s-quark purity was 69% and th…

High commitment HR practices, the employment relationship and job performance: A test of a mediation model

2016

Abstract Purpose This study outlines and tests a high commitment model of human resource (HR) practices and its association with outcomes through a path including employee perceptions and attitudes, thereby seeking a new way of opening the so-called ‘black box’ between human resource management (HRM) and performance. Methodology Data were collected through a questionnaire survey with responses from 835 Spanish workers from three sectors (services, education and food manufacture). In order to test hypotheses, we conducted a path analysis. Findings High commitment HR practices were related to employee performance through the mediating effect of perceived organizational support, a fulfilled ps…

Managing satisfaction in cultural events: Exploring the role of core and peripheral product

2017

1.INTRODUCTIONSatisfaction is a key concept within the marketing discipline and specifically within the area of consumer behaviour. Satisfaction in the arts is mostly derived from a combination of three elements: the subjective and experiential aspects of the cultural product, the quality of the venue and the quality of the associated peripheral services (Hume, 2008a). According to this author, studies on satisfaction with cultural events are key to understanding customer motives to repurchase subscription which can increase the arts organization's profitability, this being a main goal of the currently complex entertainment arena. This study focuses on satisfaction among visitors of an art e…
