Event-shape engineering for inclusive spectra and elliptic flow in Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

2016

We report on results obtained with the event-shape engineering technique applied to Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV. By selecting events in the same centrality interval, but with very different average flow, different initial-state conditions can be studied. We find the effect of the event-shape selection on the elliptic flow coefficient v2 to be almost independent of transverse momentum pT, which is as expected if this effect is attributable to fluctuations in the initial geometry of the system. Charged-hadron, -pion, -kaon, and -proton transverse momentum distributions are found to be harder in events with higher-than-average elliptic flow, indicating an interplay between radial and e…

Deconstructing and reconstructing resilience: a dynamic network approach

2019

Resilience is still often viewed as a unitary personality construct that, as a kind of anti-nosological entity, protects individuals against stress-related mental problems. However, increasing evidence indicates that the maintenance of mental health in the face of adversity results from complex and dynamic processes of adaptation to stressors that involve the activation of several separable protective factors. Such resilience factors can reside at biological, psychological and social levels and may include stable predispositions (such as genotype or personality traits) and malleable properties, skills, capacities or external circumstances (such as gene expression patterns, emotion regulatio…

Taking Familiar Others’ Perspectives to Regulate Our Own Emotion: An Event-Related Potential Study

2019

Current research on emotion regulation has mainly focused on Gross’s cognitive strategies for regulating negative emotion; however, little attention has been paid to whether social cognitive processes can be used to regulate both positive and negative emotions. We considered perspective-taking as an aspect of social cognition, and investigated whether it would affect one’s own emotional response. The present study used a block paradigm and event-related potential (ERP) technology to explore this question. A 3 (perspective: self vs. pessimistic familiar other vs. optimistic familiar other) × 3 (valence: positive vs. neutral vs. negative) within-group design was employed. Thirty-six college s…

Intermittent hypobaric hypoxia applicability in myocardial infarction prevention and recovery.

2012

Abstract Intermittent hypobaric hypoxia (IHH) has been the focus of important research in cardioprotection, and it has been associated with several mechanisms. Intermittent hypobaric hypoxia inhibits prolyl hydroxylases (PHD) activity, increasing the stabilization of hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) and activating crucial adaptative genes. It has been hence suggested that IHH might be a simple intervention, which may offer a thoughtful benefits to patients with acute myocardial infarction and no complications. Nevertheless, several doubts exist as to whether IHH is a really safe technique, with little to no complications in post-myocardial infarction patients. Intermittent hypobaric hypox…

Enzymatic systems involved in peri-receptor events of olfaction in mammalian: evolutionary perspectives

2021

International audience; The olfactory epithelium is continuously exposed to exogenous chemicals, including compounds bearing odor activity. Organisms have developed multiple mechanisms for the protection of this epithelium, among which anti-microbial proteins, enzymes fighting the oxidative stress and xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes. Our approach consists in characterizing by immunohistochemistry and mass spectroscopy analysis the proteome of the nasal mucus in different mammals (currently including Harbour porpoise, Homo sapiens, Mus musculus, Oryctolagus cuniculus, Rattus norvegicus). These analyses reveal core some enzyme families in the different species investigated, including glutathi…

Physical activity, diet quality and all-cause cardiovascular disease and cancer mortality: A prospective study of 346 627 UK Biobank participants

2022

ObjectivesTo examine independent and interactive associations of physical activity and diet with all-cause, cardiovascular disease (CVD) and physical activity, diet and adiposity-related (PDAR) cancer mortality.MethodsThis population-based prospective cohort study (n=346 627) is based on the UK Biobank data with linkage to the National Health Service death records to 30 April 2020. A left-truncated Cox proportional hazards model was fitted to examine the associations between exposures (self-reported total moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA), vigorous-intensity physical activity (VPA) and a diet quality index (score ranged 0–3)) and outcomes (all-cause, CVD and PDAR cance…

Vibroakustiskie un ergonomiskie riski strādājošajiem polimēru pārstrādes rūpniecībā

2019

„Vibroakustiskie un ergonomiskie riski strādājošajiem polimēru pārstrādes rūpniecībā”. Darba autore: Inga Liepiņa, darba vadītāja: Asoc. profesore, Dr.med. Ž.Roja. Darbs izklāstīts uz 96 lpp., ietver 43 attēlus, 19 tabulas, 33 literatūras avotus, 11 pielikumus. Maģistra darbs sastāv no četrām daļām.

2015

Psihoemocionālie un ergonomiskie darba vides riski, preventīvie pasākumi veselības aprūpē nodarbinātajiem. Maģistra darbs, 69 lappuses, 11 attēli, 22 tabulas, 42 literatūras avoti, 3 pielikumi. Latviešu valodā. Darbs sastāv no 3 daļām. Pirmajā daļā ir veikta literatūras analīze. Tā norāda, ka veselības aprūpē nodarbinātie savā ikdienas darbā pamatā pakļauti psihoemocionālajiem un ergonomiskajiem riska faktoriem. Otrajā daļā ir aprakstītas pētījumā lietotās metodes. Trešajā daļā veikta rezultātu analīze un to iztirzājums. Iegūtie pētījuma rezultāti ļauj secināt, ka veselības aprūpē nodarbinātie, veicot smagumu celšanu un pārvietošanu, ir pakļauti palielinātai fiziskajai slodzei, darba pienāk…
