Traveller and fan identities of the Finnish football fans
2010
This research deals with the Finnish football fans and their motives to travel and follow sports. The reason for studying this area is to increase information and knowledge about the consumer behaviour of sport fans. Special attention is paid to the question of why fans behave the way they do. What factors affect fans’ decision making processes when they travel? Does sport have an influence on the travelling process? Are there any similarities between the reasons of travelling and attending sport events? In this study sport fans are divided into different fan types according to their motives to attend sport events as spectators and in different traveller typologies according their motives t…
Elinsiirtoliikunnan viikon vapaaehtoisten profiili, motiivit ja aikeet vapaaehtoistyöhön jatkossa
2017
Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli kuvailla European Transplant Sport Week (ETSW) -tapahtuman toteuttamista tukevissa vapaaehtoistehtävissä toimineiden vapaaehtoisten profiilia sekä selvittää vapaaehtoisten osallistumisen motiiveja. Lisäksi tutkittiin vapaaehtoisten tietämystä elinsiirron saaneiden liikunnasta ja aikomuksia toimia vapaaehtoisena jatkossa. Tutkimuksessa käsiteltiin vapaaehtoisuutta jälkimodernin yhteiskunnan piirteiden näkökulmasta, jossa refleksiivinen yksilöllisiä tarkoitusperiä tavoitteleva ja episodimaisuuteen perustuva vapaaehtoisuus on syrjäyttämässä aiempaa perinteisiin ja yhteisöllisyyteen tukeutunutta kollektiivista vapaaehtoisuutta. Tutkimus oli kvantitatiivinen tapaust…
Novel Pharmaceutical and Nutraceutical-Based Approaches for Cardiovascular Diseases Prevention Targeting Atherogenic Small Dense LDL
2022
Compelling evidence supports the causative link between increased levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD) development. For that reason, the principal aim of primary and secondary cardiovascular prevention is to reach and sustain recommended LDL-C goals. Although there is a considerable body of evidence that shows that lowering LDL-C levels is directly associated with CVD risk reduction, recent data shows that the majority of patients across Europe cannot achieve their LDL-C targets. In attempting to address this matter, a new overarching concept of a lipid-lowering approach, comprising of even more intensive, much earlier and lo…
Seasonal Modulation of the $^7$Be Solar Neutrino Rate in Borexino
2017
We detected the seasonal modulation of the $^7$Be neutrino interaction rate with the Borexino detector at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso in Italy. The period, amplitude, and phase of the observed time evolution of the signal are consistent with its solar origin, and the absence of an annual modulation is rejected at 99.99\% C.L. The data are analyzed using three methods: the sinusoidal fit, the Lomb-Scargle and the Empirical Mode Decomposition techniques, which all yield results in excellent agreement.
Decoding brain activities of literary metaphor comprehension: An event-related potential and EEG spectral analysis
2022
Novel metaphors in literary texts (hereinafter referred to as literary metaphors) seem to be more creative and open-ended in meaning than metaphors in non-literary texts (non-literary metaphors). However, some disagreement still exists on how literary metaphors differ from non-literary metaphors. Therefore, this study explored the neural mechanisms of literary metaphors extracted from modern Chinese poetry by using the methods of Event-Related Potentials (ERPs) and Event-Related Spectral Perturbations (ERSPs), as compared with non-literary conventional metaphors and literal expressions outside literary texts. Forty-eight subjects were recruited to make the semantic relatedness judgment afte…
Emerging Joint Expertise? Multiagency Collaboration Described in Local Integration Programmes in Finland
2016
Multiagency collaboration is seen as an essential way of working to promote the two-way integration of newcomers and a receiving society. The term multiagency collaboration underlines the diversity of actors in cooperation. Cross-sectorial networks are mentioned in higher strategies as well as in the local programmes or plans for action. But how is multiagency work structured at the local level? This article looks at the examples of multiagency collaboration in the written documents of local integration programmes in the Finnish context. The examples are chosen from different areas. It seems that collaboration is widely emphasized as a goal or a working method. Whereas expertise in integrat…
Unveiling the Mysteries of Dyslexia-Lessons Learned from the Prospective Jyväskylä Longitudinal Study of Dyslexia.
2021
This paper reviews the observations of the Jyväskylä Longitudinal Study of Dyslexia (JLD). The JLD is a prospective family risk study in which the development of children with familial risk for dyslexia (N = 108) due to parental dyslexia and controls without dyslexia risk (N = 92) were followed from birth to adulthood. The JLD revealed that the likelihood of at-risk children performing poorly in reading and spelling tasks was fourfold compared to the controls. Auditory insensitivity of newborns observed during the first week of life using brain event-related potentials (ERPs) was shown to be the first precursor of dyslexia. ERPs measured at six months of age related to phoneme length identi…

The energy and identification continua of burnout and work engagement : Developmental profiles over eight years
2017
Abstract Understanding of the mutual developmental dynamics between burnout and work engagement is limited due to the lack of longitudinal studies with long follow-ups and multi-wave data. This study sought to identify subgroups of employees characterized by long-term exhaustion-vigor (energy continuum) and cynicism-dedication (identification continuum). A further important aim was to investigate differences between the identified subgroups in their experiences of progress in their personal work goals. Five-wave, eight-year follow-up data among Finnish white-collar professionals ( n = 168) were studied using Latent Profile Analysis (LPA). The analysis yielded three exhaustion-vigor subgrou…
