Co-Citation Analysis of Articles Published in Substance Abuse Journals: Intellectual Structure and Research Fields (2001-2012).

2016

The purpose of this study is to introduce a new methodology in the field of substance abuse, namely, co-citation analysis, which uses the bibliographic references of publications to establish the main thematic areas being researched and to identify the seminal documents that have contributed to establishing the intellectual foundation of the discipline at the present time.We identified all bibliographic references that were cited in documents published in the substance abuse journals included in the Journal Citation Reports in the 2001-2012 period, generating a co-citation matrix. This matrix was used to perform a co-citation network analysis. The co-citation network analysis led to the iden…

Facilitating Teaching and Learning Capabilities in Social Learning Management Systems: Challenges, Issues, and Implications for Design

2013

The adoption of learning management systems LMSs and social networking technologies SNTs in higher education has begun to change the way learning and teaching take place. However, the adoption of these emerging tools as a means to support collaboration seems to be slow. This study seeks to identify issues and opportunities related to LMS and SNT utilization and combination to enhance learning and teaching capabilities in higher education. An illustrative study reports on student and instructor experiences of using these systems in two Norwegian universities. The empirical evidence gained is analysed in terms of current benefits and drawbacks, and future challenges and capabilities. This pro…

TURNING DATA INTO VALUABLE INSIGHTS: THE CASE STUDY IN AVIATION SECTOR COMPANY

2017

Since the early 2000s, there is increasing pressure on Human Resource Departments to show their impact on organizational performance. This pressure is related to the shift from industrial based economies to knowledge based economies and positioning people as potential sources of competitive advantage, and to the rise of Evidence-Based Management (EBM), which requires making decisions based on data and analysis. New technologies have enabled HR departments to start a transition from HR metrics to HR Analytics, thus transforming from the traditional administrative HR function to a more strategic HR function that can express qualitative matters and its impact on organizational performance with…

Develop of Innovation for Overall Successful Learning

2013

Innovation has many forms and thus many ways of being acquired. Restricted by time and space, our aim here is limited to showing some of the ways to develop of innovation in learning. We suppose that certain skills are efficient in reaching this goal such as modeling, situation management, operational control, teamwork, appropriate orientation and that, in addition, certain personal or social factors like motivation also play a role. We try to provide a theoretical conceptual basis for designing guidelines for innovative learning and provide a foundation for its continued development. We believe that it is crucial to establish reference methods to strengthen the relationship between innovat…

Reconstruction of the Rib Vaults of the Hypostyle Hall in the Maniace Castle of Siracusa After the 1693 Earthquake

2016

ABSTRACTBuilt in the first half of the 13th century on behalf of the Emperor Frederick II, the Maniace Castle of Siracusa focuses its enigma in the hypostyle hall (which was composed of 25 quadripartite rib vaults) and the design criteria adopted for its implementation. Recent research and a careful rereading of the documentary “restoration project” after the earthquake of 1693 have offered new tools to understand the construction techniques and building procedures for the entire organism. It has been possible to demonstrate that the different material (white limestone and volcanic stone) used for the vaults is, in fact, a product of reconstruction. The constructive node, which historiograp…

2020

Ethical Entrepreneurship Training. Theoretical Reflection and Case Analysis

2014

Abstract In this paper we first reflect on the theoretical foundation of ethical entrepreneurship training in the field of economy. In this sense, we try to establish briefly the theoretical and historical assumptions of ethical entrepreneurship, especially from a review of the work of Adam Smith, professor of Moral Philosophy and central figure in the birth of the modern economy. We then present a definition of entrepreneurial activity, which is closely linked to a social and ethical dimension of economy and to the internal goods of economic activity. On the basis of these considerations, we propose some objectives of training for ethical entrepreneurship. Finally, we present a case study …

Entrepreneurs’ Exit and Paths to Retirement: Theoretical and Empirical Considerations

2019

The number of ageing entrepreneurs in micro- and small-sized companies is rapidly increasing in Finland and other European Union countries. Over half a million jobs, in over one hundred thousand companies within the EU, are lost annually due to unsuccessful, predominantly retirement-related transfers of businesses. This challenge coincides with EU Grand Challenges and has been highlighted in the Entrepreneurship 2020 Action Plan (European Commission 2013). It has been estimated that in Finland, some 8000 jobs are lost yearly due to the ageing of entrepreneurs. Therefore, entrepreneur ageing has implications not only for the ageing individual but also for the company and the society at large…

CEO gender and SMEs innovativeness: evidence for Spanish businesses

2021

AbstractThis paper analyses the role of gender of the chief executive officer (CEO) on the propensity to introduce innovations using a sample of 1405 Spanish small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). We examine whether there are significant differences between female- and male-led businesses in terms of their propensity to innovate, and whether these differences may be explained by factors related to the attributes of the CEO concerning risk tolerance, self-confidence, education level and cooperative behaviour. In particular, this study tests if the linkages between these managerial attributes and the propensity to innovate are influenced by the gender of the CEO. Using a multivariate pro…

European Common Transport Policy and Short‐Sea Shipping: Empirical Evidence Based on Modal Choice Models

2009

Abstract This article aims to find the determinants of mode choice decisions for Spanish full lorry and full container loads shipments to the rest of Europe in four productive sectors: agroindustry, ceramic tiles, motor vehicle parts and household appliances. To this end exhaustive fieldwork was carried out and a database constructed, including 507 observations collected from transport decision‐makers. A binary logit is used to estimate a modal choice model where the two modes considered are road transport and Short‐Sea Shipping. The estimation of the model stresses the importance of a politico‐economic evaluation of how to modify the modal split, paying particular attention to the role tha…
