OBJECTIVE To find out whether pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE) can achieve lasting reduction of pulmonary vascular resistance in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension due to chronic thromboembolism. PATIENTS AND METHODS 45 patients (25 women, 20 men; mean age 45 +/- 24 [19-67] years) were re-investigated a mean of 21 (13-32) months after successful PTE. The value of magnetic resonance tomography in the diagnosis of carcinoma of the cervix was studied in a prospective series of 20 patients. The results were compared with those of computed tomography and with the clinical findings. The diagnosis depended on the postoperative histology. Gynaecological examination proved superior to imaging methods in determining the extent of local tumour spread. Tumour involvement of the regional lymphatic system was better demonstrated by MRT than by CT. Exact staging proved inadequate with both these methods and the new imaging methods have not produced any changes in operative planning or technique.

This case report shows that 3D perineal ultrasound can be superior to clinical examination and routine 2D perineal ultrasound in the detection of an unusual subpubic tumor. A 73-year-old female patient was referred to our urogynecological outpatient unit complaining of over-active bladder symptoms and voiding dysfunction for 3 years. Gynecological examination found no signs of pelvic organ prolapse or abnormality in the vaginal cavity. For a large scaled test 52 patients with anterior transposition of the ulnar nerve and 62 patients with elbow injuries were examined by questionnaire, physical examination and electroneurography. In conformity with existing literature 24 patients out of 52 suffering from cubital tunnel syndrome had an elbow trauma previously. To our great surprise in seven patients out of 46 with elbow injuries a cubital tunnel syndrome could be found for the first time. Primary intestinal lymphangiectasia (PIL) is a protein-losing, exsudative gastroenteropathy causing lymphatic obstruction. Diagnosis depends on clinical examination and histological findings. Conservative treatment modalities include a low-fat diet and enteral nutritional therapy in order to reduce enteric protein loss and to improve fat metabolism. Other treatment options consist of administration of antiplasmin or octreotide to lower lymph flow and secretion.
