Verification of linear hybrid systems with large discrete state spaces using counterexample-guided abstraction refinement

2017

Abstract We present a counterexample-guided abstraction refinement ( CEGAR) approach for the verification of safety properties of linear hybrid automata with large discrete state spaces, such as naturally arising when incorporating health state monitoring and degradation levels into the controller design. Such models can – in contrast to purely functional controller models – not be analyzed with hybrid verification engines relying on explicit representations of modes, but require fully symbolic representations for both the continuous and discrete part of the state space. The presented abstraction methods directly work on a symbolic representation of arbitrary non-convex combinations of line…

Quantum Real - Time Turing Machine

2001

The principles of quantum computation differ from the principles of classical computation very much. Quantum analogues to the basic constructions of the classical computation theory, such as Turing machine or finite 1-way and 2-ways automata, do not generalize deterministic ones. Their capabilities are incomparable. The aim of this paper is to introduce a quantum counterpart for real - time Turing machine. The recognition of a special kind of language, that can't be recognized by a deterministic real - time Turing machine, is shown.

Space-Efficient 1.5-Way Quantum Turing Machine

2001

1.5QTM is a sort of QTM (Quantum Turing Machine) where the head cannot move left (it can stay where it is and move right). For computations is used other - work tape. In this paper will be studied possibilities to economize work tape space more than the same deterministic Turing Machine can do (for some of the languages). As an example language (0i1i|i ≥ 0) is chosen, and is proved that this language could be recognized by deterministic Turing machine using log(i) cells on work tape , and 1.5QTM can recognize it using constant cells quantity.

Lung Ultrasonography – A Paraclinical Investigation Promoter in Community-Acquired Pneumonia Diagnosis in Children

2019

Abstract Lung ultrasonography is an excellent alternative to chest radiography, with better sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values and, finally, with better accuracy. The lung ultrasonography is proven to be useful in trying to reduce the request of chest radiography. In the opinion of most specialists, lung ultrasonography is recommended to be a valuable tool for the diagnosis of community-acquired pneumonia in children. Considering the fact that clinical examination remains essential because it suspects the diagnosis, the evolution does not require radiologic follow-up, also the pathologic findings at the clinical examination may change over the course of a day,…

Histophotometry: a new method for automated histological examination of solid tissue samples demonstrated on bladder cancer.

1979

The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the ability of a new method to discriminate between benign and malignant tissue. Tissue samples from three patients with bladder tumours and one patient with bladder diverticula have been examined by histophotometry. This method, based on the correlation of nuclear volume and nucleic acid contents per cell uses thick formalin fixed samples. The results are obtained by measurements averaging more than one hundred thousand cells per sample. By this histophotometric examination a clear differentiation between malignant and benign tissue could be achieved. It was also possible to determine the degree of malignancy and to differentiate between infiltr…

Co-regulation between cyclo-oxygenase-2 and inducible nitric oxide synthase expression in the time-course of murine inflammation.

2000

Many in vitro studies have used cell cultures to focus on the relationships between cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-2) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) isoforms. We have investigated the time-course of regulation and the role of COX-2 and iNOS in a model of experimental inflammation in mice, the air pouch injected with zymosan. This study demonstrates that there is an early acute phase (4 h) mediated mainly by eicosanoids, with high levels of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) produced by cyclo-oxygenase-1. In addition, in the later phase (from 12 h) there is a participation of nitric oxide (NO) and PGE2 accompanied by co-induction of both iNOS and COX-2. These enzymes were detected in migrating leuk…

A central nervous system-focused treatment approach for people with frozen shoulder: protocol for a randomized clinical trial

2019

Background: Frozen shoulder (FS) is a musculoskeletal condition of poorly understood etiology that results in shoulder pain and large mobility deficits. Despite some physical therapy interventions, such as joint mobilization and exercise, having shown therapeutic benefit, a definitive treatment does not currently exist. The aim of this study will be to compare the effectiveness of a central nervous system (CNS)-directed treatment program versus a standard medical and physical therapy care program on outcomes in participants with FS. Methods/design: The study is a two-group, randomized clinical trial with blinding of participants and assessors. Participants will be recruited via referrals fr…

Glucocorticoid receptor regulates organic cation transporter 1 (OCT1, SLC22A1) expression via HNF4α upregulation in primary human hepatocytes

2013

Abstract Background Organic cation transporter 1 (OCT1, SLC22A1) is a membrane transporter that is important for therapeutic effect of the antidiabetic drug metformin. Its liver-specific expression in hepatocytes is strongly controlled by hepatocyte nuclear factor-4α (HNF4α). HNF4α expression and transcriptional activity have been demonstrated to be augmented by glucocorticoid receptor (GR) in human hepatocytes and rodent livers. Methods It was examined whether GR activation indirectly induces OCT1 gene expression via HNF4α up-regulation in primary human hepatocytes. We also examined which other transcription factors are involved in OCT1 gene expression and whether they are regulated by dexa…

Occupational health disparities among U.S. long-haul truck drivers: the influence of work organization and sleep on cardiovascular and metabolic dise…

2018

Objective The organization of work has undergone vast transformations over the past four decades in the United States and has had profound impacts on worker health and wellbeing. The profession of commercial truck driving is one of the best examples. Particularly for long-haul truck drivers, changes in work organization have led to disproportionately poor physiological, psychological, and sleep health outcomes. Methods The present study examined disparities in cardiometabolic disease risk among long-haul truck drivers and the general population, and the influence of work organization and sleep in generating these outcomes. Researchers collected survey data from 260 drivers, and blood assay …

Sunct syndrome. Report of a case and treatment update

2015

Short-lasting unilateral neuralgiform headache attacks with conjuntival injection and tearing (SUNCT) is considered a rare trigeminal autonomic cephalgias, a group of primary headache disorders characterized by brief episodes of severe unilateral headache in the distribution territory of the trigeminal nerve, accompanied by prominent ipsilateral and cranial parasympathetic autonomic features. The present report describes a SUNCT syndrome in a 64-year-old male who had been diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia several years ago. The patient reported stabbing pain in the orbital zone and in the left upper maxillary region, of great intensity, brief duration, and a frequency of 20-100 attacks a …
