Chandra X-ray observation of the HII region Gum 31 in the Carina Nebula complex

2014

(abridged) We used the Chandra observatory to perform a deep (70 ksec) X-ray observation of the Gum 31 region and detected 679 X-ray point sources. This extends and complements the X-ray survey of the central Carina nebula regions performed in the Chandra Carina Complex Project. Using deep near-infrared images from our recent VISTA survey of the Carina nebula complex, our Spitzer point-source catalog, and optical archive data, we identify counterparts for 75% of these X-ray sources. Their spatial distribution shows two major concentrations, the central cluster NGC 3324 and a partly embedded cluster in the southern rim of the HII region, but majority of X-ray sources constitute a rather homo…

The rich young cluster NGC 6530: a combined X-ray-optical-infrared study

2006

We present a combined X-ray, optical, and IR (2MASS) study of NGC 6530, complementing our previous studies of this cluster. We consider different indicators of IR excesses, which can be taken as an indicator of circumstellar disks and therefore of pre-main-sequence status. We used reddening-free indices to ensure that our results are unaffected by highly irregular, differential reddening. More than the study of the JHK bands alone (33 IR-excess stars found), we found it useful to compare various optical and IR colors, finding overall 333 stars with optical-IR excess. In the field of the previously studied Chandra ACIS-I observation, we found 196 stars with optical-IR excess, of which 120 ha…

The VISTA Carina Nebula Survey II. Spatial distribution of the infrared-excess-selected young stellar population

2015

We performed a deep wide-field (6.76 deg^2) near-infrared survey with the VISTA telescope that covers the entire extent of the Carina nebula complex (CNC). The point-source catalog created from these data contains around four million individual objects down to masses of 0.1 M_sun. We present a statistical study of the large-scale spatial distribution and an investigation of the clustering properties of infrared-excesses objects, which are used to trace disk-bearing young stellar objects (YSOs). We find that a (J - H) versus (Ks - [4.5]) color-color diagram is well suited to tracing the population of YSO-candidates (cYSOs) by their infrared excess. We identify 8781 sources with strong infrar…

Confirmation of the new isotope Pb178

2016

The extremely neutron-deficient isotope $^{178}\mathrm{Pb}$ has been produced. The GREAT spectrometer at the focal plane position of the gas-filled separator RITU was used to study the $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ decay of $^{178}\mathrm{Pb}$ and its $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-decay chain through $\ensuremath{\alpha}\text{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\alpha}$ correlations. The $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ decay was measured to have an energy and half-life of ${E}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}$= 7610(30) keV and ${t}_{1/2}=0.{21}_{\ensuremath{-}0.08}^{+0.21}$ ms, respectively. The half-life is consistent with recent theoretical calculations using the Coulomb and proximity potential model. The $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-decay…

Cross section ratio and angular distributions of the reaction p + d -> 3He + eta at 48.8 MeV and 59.8 MeV excess energy

2014

We present new data for angular distributions and on the cross section ratio of the p + d -> 3He + eta reaction at excess energies of Q = 48.8 MeV and Q = 59.8 MeV. The data have been obtained at the WASA-at-COSY experiment (Forschungszentrum J\"ulich) using a proton beam and a deuterium pellet target. While the shape of obtained angular distributions show only a slow variation with the energy, the new results indicate a distinct and unexpected total cross section fluctuation between Q = 20 MeV and Q = 60 MeV, which might indicate the variation of the production mechanism within this energy interval.

Mass Measurements and Implications for the Energy of the High-Spin Isomer inAg94

2008

Nuclides in the vicinity of {sup 94}Ag have been studied with the Penning trap mass spectrometer JYFLTRAP at the Ion-Guide Isotope Separator On-Line. The masses of the two-proton-decay daughter {sup 92}Rh and the beta-decay daughter {sup 94}Pd of the high-spin isomer in {sup 94}Ag have been measured, and the masses of {sup 93}Pd and {sup 94}Ag have been deduced. When combined with the data from the one-proton- or two-proton-decay experiments, the results lead to contradictory mass excess values for the high-spin isomer in {sup 94}Ag, -46 370(170) or -44 970(100) keV, corresponding to excitation energies of 6960(400) or 8360(370) keV, respectively.

Mass ofAl23for testing the isobaric multiplet mass equation

2009

The mass excess of the proton-rich nucleus $^{23}\mathrm{Al}$ has been measured with the JYFLTRAP Penning trap setup. As a result of our experiment we obtain a mass excess of 6748.07(34) keV, and by combining the value to existing experimental data we have tested the validity of the isobaric multiplet mass equation $(\mathrm{IMME})$ for the $T=3/2$ quartet in the $A=23$ isobar. The fit to the IMME results in a vanishing cubic term equivalent to zero with high precision [$0.22(42)$ keV].

Mass and low-lying levels ofIn106,108from theCd106,108(p,nγ)reactions

1984

106In has been studied via the reaction 106Cd(p,nγ)106In in the energy range Ep=7-9 MeV. Inbeam γ-ray excitation functions, γ-γ coincidence measurements, and β+-delayed γ-ray excitation functions have been used to identify thirteen levels in 106In. From this new level scheme the energy separation of the high-spin ground state and the low-spin isomer has been determined to be 28.6±0.5 keV. The threshold energy of the strongest low-lying γ-ray transition yields a mass excess for 106In of -80601±15 keV. Spins for some states are suggested by comparing the excitation functions to Hauser-Feshbach calculations. In-beam γ-ray excitation functions for the 108Cd(p,nγ)108In reaction give a mass exces…

Implication of the 750 GeV diphoton resonance on two-Higgs-doublet model and its extensions with Higgs field

2015

We examine the implication of the 750 GeV diphoton resonance on the two-Higgs-doublet model imposing various theoretical and experimental constraints. The production rate of two-Higgs-doublet model is smaller than the cross section observed at the LHC by two order magnitude. In order to accommodate the 750 GeV diphoton resonance, we extend the two-Higgs-doublet model by introducing additional Higgs fields, and focus on two different extensions, an inert complex Higgs triplet and a real scalar septuplet. With the 125 GeV Higgs being agreement with the observed data, the production rate for the 750 GeV diphoton resonance can be enhanced to 0.6 fb for the former and 4.5 fb for the latter. The …
