Nueve tesis introductorias sobre la distopía

2021

Nine introductory theses about dystopia

Monstrous Hybrids in Shakespeare’s King Lear

2017

ABSTRACT: This article seeks to present the different languages (emblems, Renaissance translations of classical myths, biblical exegesis) that inform the images of monsters which, as hybrid creatures blending human and animal characteristics, serve a dramatic function in Shakespeare’s King Lear . It means to question the ways in which the play links filial ingratitude with female monstrosity and Lear’s madness. Tracing the classical and medieval lineage of the monstrous bestiary (serpent, tiger, vulture) in King Lear and connecting it to emblematic readings of Shakespeare’s time, it explores how Shakespeare provides a dynamic characterisation of Goneril and Regan through their bestialisatio…

2017

2022

Expressions, verses and sequences dealt from the Iliad and the Odyssey are the basis of the conversations held in Plato’s and Xenophon’s ‘literary symposia’, representing the privileged repertoire of images and codified situations for both quantity and variety of subjects to which both Socrate and the other characters referred to when they gathered at table, sometimes intervening also on textual exegesis problems. Direct projection of an aural / oral civilization in which the Homeric texts still constitute the tribal ‘encyclopedia’ of the Greek world, the two Symposia reveal their own alterity with respect to the Convivium of the Seven Wise by Plutarch in which the quotations from the two a…

Paulson's Nomological Normativity

2013

In some of his recent work Stanley Paulson puts forward a number of important and ambitious exegetical claims about Hans Kelsen’s Pure Theory of Law. Some of these claims are not novel in Paulson’s rich Kelsenian corpus. But, taken together, these claims now amount to the main outlines of a fully-fledged interpretation of the theoretical foundations of the Pure Theory of Law. Paulson holds that (1) contrary to what Joseph Raz, Carlos S. Nino and many others have claimed, there is, in the Pure Theory of Law, no “justified normativity” thesis. Kelsenian normativity is, rather, “nomological” normativity. (2) ‘Validity’ is not, in the Pure Theory of Law, a matter of the reasons norm-subjects ma…

Marcion: A New Perspective on his Life, Theology, and Impact

2010

The main argument of the present article is that previous scholarship has turned Marcion’s exegesis of Scripture upside down. He did not find the inspiration for his doctrine in the teachings of the Apostle Paul, it is the Old Testament and its portrait of an inconsistent, vengeful and cruel God which forms the centre of his theology. Marcion does not understand the Old Testament in the light of the New, he interprets the New Testament in the light of the Old.

Deciphering the city and its historical evolution through the analysis of its representations is today, at least for Trapani, a method of investigation never pursued. Those that at a first observation app…
